blackbabyjesus
So, bit of a fluff one really, everyone knows salamanders have jet black skin and scary red eyes as a result of their gene seed and the radiation on Nocturne... But what about the Primaeris Salamanders fresh out of the vaults on Mars that went out to join Guilliman's crusade? Those guys have never been to Nocturne, would they have normal human coloured skin? Zephaniah Adriyen
Interesting thought. I think maybe they wouldn't have the black skin, no. However, I also feel like the black skin could happen on fresh Indomitus Crusaders of the Salamanders because of the gene-seed element of it and that the black skin makes the Salamanders look more striking in general. But that's just me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359451-indomitus-crusade-salamanders/#findComment-5414617 Share on other sites
blackbabyjesus
I'm thinking about it largely because I have a big stack of Primaris marine models that I'd like to build but I don't want to paint everyone's head black, I enjoy painting a variety of skin tones, and some of the models will look straight up better with a caucasian skin tone over coal black with red eyes (Lt Amulius for example). Though some will look super awesome with the black skin and red eyes (phobos librarian!).  From a fluff perspective the fact that some of the Salamanders primaris dudes will have never been to Nocturne and so won't have been exposed to the radiation that makes them turn black; that works I think, but was wondering about the views of the hive-mind! SoulessGod
I would assume that the sons of Vulkan would have an increased reaction to all radiation maybe just not as crazy as if they were on Nocture. Â Maybe your marines just have badass tans unless they've been to planets with similar atmospheres to Nocturne? Gederas
Well, if they've NEVER been to Nocturne, they'd have whatever skin tone they had before gene-seed implantation (iirc, the Terran Legionnaires of the Dragon Warriors [pre-Vulkan Salamanders] were described as having swarthy skintones). But, due to the gene-seed of their chapter, as soon as any of those Indomitus Crusade Greyshield Salamanders goes to Nocturne, they'd get the Salamanders skin. blackbabyjesus
That was my thinking, i shall proceed with my multicultural sons of Vulkan with an almost watertight fluff justification for why they're not all red eyed monsters.
