So I was reading through some of the topics in here, it wasn't that old of a post to make it obsolete. But someone said using multiple Venerable Dreads was a good course of action. How many is good to have and would you arm them all the same or mix up their weapon load outs? Currently I have 2 painted, but I've got a 3rd one not built yet. And I can arm them with any of the loadouts, even missile launchers thanks to shapeways, I ordered 2 packs so I got 4 total. Which I'm thinking about getting another Get Started DW box so I can make some more jump pack guys and maybe actually give the new ones for of a meta weapon load out.

I play 3 dreads at the moment, they started out life as ven dreads with twin las, but I found 6 lascannons weren’t enough anti tank, so now they’re mortis dreads with dual Las.

Contemptors are better for your points, but you’re probably in the same boat as me, I don’t have those models :P

Was hoping I could skate by with those dreads rather than buy new ones, I'm not looking to be like super win mode. I'm still new to playing the game, so I'll  be happy as long as I'm playing win or lose. But I was hoping to try to build up my army in a decent direction before I get them all painted.

I've also moved to the contemptor path. I haven't checked shapeways for this specifically, but you could see if someone made twin lascannon parts for contemptors. GW does make a plastic version that might be modifiable.

Sticking with the ven dread theme, I think you could pull it off with 2 or 3 (battalion and vanguard worst case) ven dreads if you bring enough "support" anti-tank. Essentially that means plasma or melta support squads. You could also lump frag cannons into that category but it gets expensive quickly. Delivery of those is also going to be key! A vet squad with 3 melta walking across the board is not ideal, but drop pods and rhinos are another story. Drop pods are actually in a really good spot for plasma vets. Not a lot of fans due to hellblaster love but turn 1 placement is quite important if you want early game impact.

As far as loadouts for ven dreads, I use either lascannon/claw or lascannon/missile. If you want to run a cheap loadout, you could go plasma and missiles. Im not sure assault cannons or plasma cannons are competitive choice anymore just because they can be taken out fairly quickly when you march them up the field. The favored tactic is camping them in the back, just out of range of specific models. They last a bit longer too.

You could also try a chaplain venerable dread. The FW model is gone so you can convert your own to your liking (like the furioso dread from blood angels).

Maybe I misread the post about the dreads being venerable and being the other FW variants. I'll check shapeways though I got missile launchers from them for the dreads before. I've also picked up xenos hunter storm bolters and deathwatch shields from them and they were all decent. Check them out if you are curious about them, I have the links in my DW Project thread.

I run with 2x Venerable Dreadnoughts with TLLC & DCCW+SB - but they're not my only anti-tank/anti-meq units. I also run with 2x Combi-Plasma Veteran squads & 2 Land Raider Helios.

I like the DCCW+SB because it makes charging them risky and I've found that the missile launcher rarely does anything useful & each time I've used the ML, I always regret not having the DCCW for them.

I built them so I could exchange the weapons on them if things didn't pan out. I've got a LR Redeemer was going to run that to transport Eisenhorn. I've got an extra LR Crusader half built I could finish building, maybe see about getting the Helios bits, maybe shapeways has them they seem to have alot of stuff. I got a deal on 3 Razorbacks on ebay for a pretty decent price I have 1 primed, 1 painted, and 1 to be built.

Edit: I might have a guy who can print the Helios part of the LR so I might get that since I have the extra LR body laying around. I've got a Terminus Ultra built too bad I can't use it unless I field some UM's lol. But it looks cool!

I completely agree, I always read how people run the Twin Lascannon and Missile Launcher, but I can't bring myself to drop the fist, it's just so useful. People are scared of charging them, the flat 3 damage is brilliant and it's hitting on 2s.
