infyrana
Wondering what some of you 40k Death Guard players are using to transport or store your models in please? Specifically I am wondering what foam options or other alternative ideas people have to keep tidy and prevent damage etc. I have a host of Feldherr cases for my other models / games, and several older GW cases with foam designed for 25mm bases. I'm looking at the option to replace some of that foam with newer stuff that will fit models like Blightlord Terminators and Plague Marines, alongside PBC's and FBD's. I was hoping to avoid buying another new case (I have like 8+ already!) and just wanted the foam, I do like the idea of the newer GW case foam but I don't believe it's available anywhere separately. I did consider the magnetising of bases and using a metal toolbox or tin of sorts, but I'd likely do more damage to the models rattling around inside if I should accidentally handle it without due care. I have used the Feldherr pick and pluck foam, but wasn't keen on it at all. Gederas
KR Multicase sells foam with cutouts specifically shaped for the new Death Guard stuff. Their site is a little wonky, but the foam is good. Dallas Drake
Second KR cases great cost effective selection and value for money, confusing system for foam but worth getting your head around. Alternatively magnetise the bases and buy magnetic sheets (adhesive) and a storage box. infyrana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360670-storing-transporting-death-guard-models-pbcfbdpmbls/#findComment-5449016 Share on other sites
Ishagu
I can also vouch for KR. Great product. I use everything they do, from the foam trays to the card cases to the bags to transport them in. infyrana and Bat33.1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360670-storing-transporting-death-guard-models-pbcfbdpmbls/#findComment-5450456 Share on other sites
infyrana
Thank you all, I was originally looking to reduce cost but it seems I might need to try some of the KR stuff after all! Special Officer Doofy
I will never use foam again. Just eats away at the varnish and paint, and scrapes at my detailed bases. I'm a magnet and tin box fan. I find I don't have to be any more careful with that set up. Let me know if you get the KR stuff what you think of it! infyrana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360670-storing-transporting-death-guard-models-pbcfbdpmbls/#findComment-5450461 Share on other sites

How does it eat away at varnish or scrape bases? I ask because I've been storing everything in foam for years without noticing anything like this. infyrana
If the foam is a tight fit or rough too, it can definitely cause issues if you're putting them in and out regularly. Lot of my old confrontation stuff is so delicate and is a pain to put into firm foam trays where most are a bit undersized. It's why I'm looking for stuff that works and fits the sheer bulk if some of the DG models. Dallas Drake
I have a KR case for my DG and a magnet case for my Custodes. Both are great. If I was going to get a new case I’d make my own magnetic one (like I did for my Custodes) using adhesive magnet sheets from eBay and a cheap toolbox/case. Magnet cases are also faster to remove models from and have the added advantage of not caring about model complexity, you can store Blightlords as easy as you can store Poxwalkers or Morty. Just from foam being scratchy in general and playing mostly chaos recently with all the spikes and conversions, when you put them in or take them out the rubbing takes some off. As far as bases I use corkboard and ballist and make some nice bases that overhang slightly from the plastic base and these rub on the sides of the foam and it takes off paint of the cork and small amounts of ballist. Not alot, not to the point where I want to touch up or repaint, but enough to not use them again and say my opinion on an online forum to a stranger asking a question about it. But I've never used special dedicated foam like some people in here are suggesting. Maybe that will work better. infyrana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360670-storing-transporting-death-guard-models-pbcfbdpmbls/#findComment-5450498 Share on other sites
CastellanDeMolay
But I've never used special dedicated foam like some people in here are suggesting. Maybe that will work better. That's probably it. The foam used in KR cases, among others, is very soft and pliable. I'm guessing that, although it may be less dense than yours models, and their paint/varnish, what you've tried is likely harder, hence it damaging the models.
