Hiroitchi
So its the begining of a new year especially for me and I find myself at a great position to make purchases I wasn't able to before. For years I have always eyeballed the Forge World Tiles. A few weeks ago I received an awesome birthday gift in the form of one of those tiles. Nearly done at the time of this writing, I decided to make a year long project for a 6x4 Table worth of some of these tiles. I want to make them uniformed, but at the same time use some of those tiles as a display board for my armies and as static Kill Team Boards. Here are the pics I got from various sites as I await for them to arrive vial mail. Then I'll post the picture and WIP of the Imperial strongpoint that I have been working on the past couple of weeks. But throughout this thread I'll share my work for the Terrain pieces for this table. Enjoy. Tiles Forge World Imperial Strong Point. Imperial Primus Redoubt Citadel Realm of Battle Board (Skulls) Citadel Realm of Battle Board (Cobblestone) Crashed Thunderhawk Gunship Castellum Stronghold WIP Imperial Strong Point Started working on using "Dawn" dish soap to start scrubbing the surface of the tile to make sure any of the mold release residue is off. Soaked and scrubbed some more because well I dont trust myself that I got all the residue off, After waiting for the tile to dry, I have the tile a nice coat of black primer. The I started layering the dark greys to near white paint using rattle cans and the dry brushing. I painted it this way so that should the snow flock that may come off through use will still look like snow. Hope this helps the snow effect. Then I started to pick out the details. Since this is one big piece I went at it one color at a time and started working on the OSL feel. Still a lot to learn. I then started to pick out more of the details and placed the first layer of flock using Woodland Scenic Snow and Glue. I even went ahead and added some mud effects and more OSL attempts. So far so good. I felt the snow needed some tuff and another layer of it to thicken the snow. As I stared longer at the muddy area, I thought it would be cool to add a coolant leak effect. I went ahead and printed out some posters using a 50/50 mix of PVA and water to glue them into place. I tried more of a hand into NNM effect on the Aquillas. Hope you guys like em so far. C & C is always welcome. Thank you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/361601-hiros-6x4-table-scenery-tiles-project/ Share on other sites
Hiroitchi
This Arrived in the Mail today and well I couldn't wait to get started. I shook the box slightly just incase parts were broke and this rattles. I was trying to mentally prepare for this Took the top layer of packaging out and found the resin parts of the Turbo Laser. Not too shabby on the packing there. Set the Box aside and pulled out the tile. Everything seems in order and well the resin parts seem to be all there so I can't complain. Now time for a bath. Soaked the tile in warm water and dishwasher soap to try and remove any excess mold remover off the tile. I have a scrub sponge ready to start scrubbing. So far so good and will make more updates soon. Thanks for reading. Dosjetka
Progress looks good so far! Curious about the dark, purple-black resin though. I'm assuming that's what Forge World used for their tiles (never bought any terrain off of them so I have no idea what to expect)? Hiroitchi
It’s a weird type of hardened plastic. Still a pain in the butt to prep since it’s pretty big and cumbersome. However it’s pretty rewarding to complete. I’ll be posting more pictures soon as soon as I can. Thanks for reading. Pretty stoked and excited on what I can pull off here for the refinery tile. So I did sometest fittings and tried to figure out how it all fits and this is what I have come up with after priming it. I even did a test on how snow would look on the stairs. I Drybrushed the metal with some Necron Compund on the Chaos Black Primer. Then after being satisfied with the results and placement, I glued everything down. Once dry I started adding the sprak of Woodland Scenic cement and sprinkled on the snow. I'm pretty happy with the ongoing results thus far. As for the 5th tile yes that is a Forgeworld crashed Thunderhawk. My wife looked annoyed that I was taking pictures rather than doing the dishes I said I would do. I had already primed and layed the base color of the crashed Thunderhawk tile. I use Mechanicus grey primer this time around since tbh I was running out of Chaos Black. I then coated and dusted area using Citadel Wraithbrone spray and tamyia white. As for the dark and black areas, I had used Tamyia Gloss Black spray and whatever left over of my Chaos black spray. Here is a close up of the base colors I will be working on. Left Rear of the Thunderhawk. Right Rear of the thunderhawk I then started laying out the base blue using Macragge Blue for the Ice winter theme I have been doing with my project theme. Using drybrushing I started to bring out the details through dry brushing in this order Hoeth Blue, Calgar Blue, Fenrisian Grey, Space wolf Grey, and finally white scar. Using the same colors I had used, I started to work on the canopy. I was careful to line the cracks of the glass with Space Wolves Grey After the colors were layed down I then put a thin layer of Glossy Nuln oil to the glass. Then I painted the glass light refraction look with white scar. I applied decals using Micro Sol. Once dry I used the sponge weathering techniques using Administrum grey and Castellen Green to break up the white decals a bit. As for other weathering techniques used I like using the Tamiya weathering master pigments. Finally I flocked the snow on there. This time I used a brush to get the Scenic Cement where I wanted. I used then used the spray bottle once the first layer was set in to apply a thin layer over of snow over it. Lastly I then applied isopropyl alcohol to heal seal it. will wait on the pigments of rust before apply matte varnish. That's it for now and thanks for looking. Hiroitchi
Its been two weeks since my last post and well I have been really busy with IRL and even finishing up projects here and there. So here is what I have been up to terrain wise; I have been busy building up my Refinery tile using necromunda uprising pieces. They look and work great. Here's the progress so far on that front. I glued the Uprising tiles to a 2x2 3mm wooden board that I got from my local Lowes. Not to shabby on the price. It was a 2x4 piece that I had them cut in half, but it was a rough measurement. I later used a hand saw to trim a 1mm-2mm lip using an Army Painter Saw, still have to sand it down to make it smooth and safe. I just hope that it wouldn't warp later when I started laying some paint on the sides. Then I started work on something Forge World, I think this will be the last tile I buy for awhile. Enjoy the slew of work in Progress pics. the pipes section, I did make some further modifications and adjustments later on, you'll see. inside the refinery installation. I started kind of trying to draw inspiration from the alien movies. In fact that gives me an idea. This is the entry way and reverse bifurcated stair case to link the 2nd floor to the third floor. I keep the pieces unglues to the base till I finish painting them. Here is what the refinery tile looks like when tied with the first refinery tile I made. its crazy to see it come together like this. Then this beast showed up so I halted work on the refinery tile. I ended up started my usual give this a bath look after opening it. After a three our bath. I primed this block of Forge World Resin Chaos Black Primer, then built up the highlights from mechanicum grey, wraithbone, and white. I used coats of Matt satin varnish in between each color. Then I test fitted the turrets after laying some metal colors down with nuln oil. I ran out. lol Then used a stencil to use a rattle can to paint the roman numeral 2 on the landing pad portion of the stronghold. worked on some extra details on the piece and even painted the windows. Still need some practice but its getting there. I started using Raptors Iconography. Decals have been put in place and more varnish sprayed on. I was curious on how it looks with a large piece model and how it can come together. So I pout my kit bashed Storm Raven on there and needless to say it did not disappoint. I started work back on my Refinery tile while I wait for the piles of snow effect I made using Valhalla Blizzard. I ran out half way and made more using Woodland Scenics Snow and Elmers glue. The results ended up being eerily similar. I'll post more later since I did ended up finishing my 6x4 project and now just working on the an alternate tile. Sgt. Blank
The Thunderhawk is amazing, I really like how you treated the skid and the material that piled up in front of it. I am very curious: did you eviscerate a Teddy bear or is the fluff something one can buy without the fuzzy outside?
Brother Dallo
Some really impressive stuff here. I really like what you’ve done with the piping and stairs. It looks really grounded, like it could actually exist in real life settings. Keep up the good work.
