Brand New 30k list building, advice for starting out with DA

Greetings all! I have been a big fan of 30k and Dark Angels in particular for years, but have never taken the plunge into playing them. I have more than a few models in my closet of shame and have decided to pull them out and really get cracking on putting them together and creating a usable list. Is there any advice for building an all around sound list for Dark Angels from you veterans of the game? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, I hope that this is the right place to post such a question but I haven't really posted a topic of my own before. 

 

My current horde of models stands at 30 tactical marines, 10 cataphractii terminators and 2 rhinos.

Pride of the legion is a great bet to use

 

Veteran Squads have access to a lot of special weapons and power weapons to boot

 

You could start out with Zone Mortalis which only takes a troop choices and a few elites to get some practice games in

Personly i would not choose Pride of the Legion to Start a heresy army.

Sooner or later you want to change Rites and then you will have to paint at least 20 Tactical Marines.

Personly with that stash would start with 20 Marines for Troop choices of your favor and use the other 10 for another squad of your choice.

 

I recently started to build an IF heresy force and the First thing i build had Bern 30 Breacher Marines aa i think it would give me more Options to play than Pride of the Legion from the start.

It's all about enjoying how your list feels and plays. Try finding a balance between creativity and following some of thematic traits that Dark Angels are known for. 

If you've got a bunch of models you might want to experiment with using veterans, seekers and tacticals in different configurations - settle with the style you like most. Combi-Plasma seekers loaded up in Rhinos has been a defining feature of my 30k Dark Angels. 

 

There is always the option to go down a Raven/Ironwing path although this can feel quite limiting after a few games. 

I'd recommend writing a few lists and melting them together until you're happy.

 

I used Pride of the Legion to write a 'Deathwing' themed 30k list with specialised Deep striking terminators. Feel free to check my list out for some ideas.

 

Make sure you max out on sweet wargear (Stasis shells and Calabanite Blades). I'm sure the new releases will add endless options to give character to your list.
