jaxom
I just had a buzzkill moment. Astartes chainswords are the equivalent of Astartes bolters. By which I mean, they are different because they're used by Astartes and not normal people. The rules to reflect that difference are Bolter Discipline and Shock Assault (and Combat Doctrines kind of); not the weapon profile. There is probably not going to be a difference in weapon profile of the chainswords that Assault Intercessors have compared to the chainswords Firstborn and Primaris Intercessor Sergeants. jaxom
To paraphrase, “Astartes chainswords are better than guard chainswords,” could easily apply to Astartes power armour is better than Sororitas power armour, as it’s true, but there’s no appreciable difference on the tabletop. So are Astartes chainswords Different as in “obviously not the same” like mark III power armour versus mark X or different as “noticeably not the same within the rules granularity” like striking scorpion chainswords versus imperium chainswords? Considering the difference between Astartes bolters and Normal bolters and bolter discipline/shock assault exist I lean towards the former. I’ll be pleased if I am wrong, but I’m not jumping onto the “are they giving bonus strength or AP train.” Khornestar and Doghouse 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/364079-making-use-of-new-primaris-units/page/3/#findComment-5532339 Share on other sites

MarshalMittermeier
So, just an idea I am toying with. Imagine a chapter master surrounded in close by 5/6 aggressors then surrounded by 5/6 of the new blade guard. Blade guard (hopefully) tank some wounds, aggressors blast away, CM providing re-rolls. All the while they are moving/advancing forward until they meet the enemy and slice/smash them. Bonus points if its WS or RG to speed em up/infiltrate them. I shall do that as Black Templar. as a BT, i can make them "advance + charge" via stratagems. plus Helbrecht (our chapter master) wont just give rerolls, but also +1" advance and charge (his trait unless they change him), as well as +1 strength aura! also, all shall get rerolls for charge (BT chapter tactic, as well as 5+ vs mortal wounds). i already have 6 aggressors + helbrecht. just waiting on the new box. edit: the bladeguard could also benefit a lot from the BT chapter superdoctrine... jaxom
Ok, but they are talking about rules, so... Awesome! I haven't had the time to sit down and listen to the Q&A and all the precis I read made it seem like an off-the-cuff response, not one specifically focused on a rules question. Well, they didn’t specify exactly how they’d be better, so we’ll see.
