hello all

nothing fancy just a stock primaris lieutenant and a tactical squad broken into two 5 man units

combi-plasma + chainsword, plasma

combi-melta + PF, melta

read that white consuls drop pod a lot from this website so i was like these would do well in one of those right

as for the HQ he seems like a 5 man tac squad since he has 5 wounds

blindly bought him with no codex or even 8th ed rules; literally got into all this after 15 years 3 days ago

bought all the tools and stuff, all the lines are cleaned up and barrels drilled out

pretty well assembled to where i can paint

- going to be sprayed corax white then all the deep set regions will go ulthuan grey followed by nuln oil and cleaned up with corax white

- guns are going abaddon black with stormhost silver

- calgar blue freehand eagle heads will go on all left shoulder pads

i was going to use wazdakka red for the eagles and chest things however i just noticed that would be too much like the white scars

lore says green shoulder pads.... gold chest eagles.... maybe ill just go stock white consuls....

so i need to go back and get some other colors as well as basing sand and glue

going with parts of sprue carved up to look like beams or rubble on the bases with sand over top

all based black and shaded up grey

i hope to keep the progress coming

giving myself two weeks for these 11

cheers

wanted to do more today but the downstairs guy was like i have a bbq... its nice out... and here we are

primed and started my thrifty bases

white

almost white

ink

white

and then i worry about all the rest

before i glue them to the bases for painting i need to go back to the store and get basing stuff and more paint

once i finish the bases i can glue the dudes and start the armour

decided to keep the chest eagle stuff golden like it should be

as for the shoulder pads... ill do whatever color it is for the 7th whatever

cause 7s guy

anyways the wip continues

need to cut out my sprues to make base length pieces of straightness

so that it looks like floor

yes i know

probably been done before but as i look around there arent a lot of plastic pieces that i can use to base these dudes

cheers

Who can resist a bbq?

I like what you did for the base decoration! Mind if I use it?

go nuts and base away

they look pretty cool before i add just a tad of sand to the exterior

in the year 40000 marines dont fight on grass tuffs i reckon....

med_gallery_217558_16448_279341.jpg

if i had a bits box i would probably add stuff but meh, c'est la vie

cant wait to glue dudes down so i can start painting for reals

figure base them black, get a medium grey for the "beams", some sort of brown for the dirt and a light grey to drybrush over it all at the end

will probably finish the bases before i glue dudes down on them

hopefully thats today

all the hobby stores are closed around me so i had to venture far out yesterday

also got some albums so... this had to wait

cleaned up all the grooves in the floor boards with an exacto and glued rocks down

will shave off the excess once it dries then just a shot of primer to get the loose rocks in the cracks secured before paint

this is how i will base all future models guy

med_gallery_217558_16448_747972.jpg

Whereabouts are you from i_reckon? There are plenty, of online stores that offer discounts on RRP and fast shipping, at least here in the UK.

How are you planning to paint the bases? It's a cool little idea that I don't think I've really seen before - they actually make me think of wooden planks, like an old tavern or a pirate ship!

all good guy

yeah yeah they look like they in the trenches

need to rotate the bases and make them all look straight ahead before i glue them down

this will i guess be the angle for all of everything

im excited to paint dudes now.... however my back is not

so i finally got to paint a marine

yay!

instead of going pure white i took out the ulthuan grey out and base coated it

gallery_217558_16448_345392.png

afterwards i wanted to do a really light nuln oil wash watered down a lot

gallery_217558_16448_622797.png

it was now time for color

so i used phoenician purple for the 7th company... its less pink ok

i kept in theme with the box of ultramarines so the chest stuff goes retributor armor (gold) as well as the rivets, skulls and anything that looked like a cable

gallery_217558_16448_386939.png

gallery_217558_16448_229141.png

pretty much straight nuln oil wash after to go POP

the armor is really dirty looking right now but the detail is sa weet

gallery_217558_16448_604889.png

gallery_217558_16448_1257265.png

so the next steps are to clean up the armor using corax white on all the flat spots leaving all the detail alone

afterwards i will highlight the white with the ulthuan grey

i REALLY LIKE the model holder clamp thing

and i really find the paints smooth and even the oil is great

seriously impressed here compared to ghetto paint days

i want to get one done....

and painted

I bow to your skill with white shading brother. That marine is quite the example!

How long, excluding the base, did it take you to get him to this point in actual painting hours?

Keep it up! :smile.:

based on my posts it took 5.45 hrs for that dude but it was probably like 4 hrs

i think steps 1&2 are useless looking at the rest of them

im just going to paint the purple, gold, black, silver, red and bone on the remaining primed figures in the unit and then nuln oil it all

then clean up the white

that will save a lot of time

these new paints are pretty good at covering up the inked flat parts; not what i expected

took me 2.5 hrs to prep the remaining 4 for nuln oil

gallery_217558_16448_1275629.png

i just oiled one

they look good enough for tabletop almost

hmmm

i bet most wouldnt even bother painting the white again

hmmm

it would be hella faster....

gallery_217558_16448_1288431.png

so like that means spray a decent coat of white and then its gold purple black silver WASH

pretty fast way to paint an army if you ask me

but i like them to look clean clean and im good at recoating the white... do i.... more time....

i cant believe i only messed up like 2 areas on my first mini that required a touch up

plus the model holder is so nice i cant even guy

i think i will go clean with the marines

dark and clean with the sisters

messy and fast with the orks because ill have to paint double the amount of models to get equivalent points

there

decided

cheers

Great use of washes to really bring depth and warmth at the same time to the overall white color scheme. With the models on the bases, they kind of resemble cobblestone/brick streets to me more now. Great progress and congrats on what is shaping up to be a very original looking force of marines!

OMG I need to speed up. I always knew I was slow but, damn! Even if you said six hours, I am way off. I took about nine on the miniature I just completed for the current painting event and that was just a single Khorne Madman.

I think you are doing a great job and it would be a pleasure to see them across the table for sure.

Keep it up brother.

took a break last night but i just had my morning routine and here we are

inking the dudes and getting their heads and guns to here took me not even 2 hrs and a pot of coffee

gallery_217558_16448_768003.png

everything is base painted and nuln oiled with the fattest brush i have

oiling is sloppy and quick but you have to be sure to catch over pooling of the oil by drying your brush tip and sucking up some but leaving enough for the black line

and with the gold skulls

to avoid filling up the tiny eyes with paint i always paint the skull and then use a paper towel to remove any excess from the front

just a dab and the gold will remain good enough to ink

im good with painting the dudes with their arms on

but the heads and guns are super glued to some paper clips and it is much easier to assemble them once these parts are painted solo

when they get a head is when you know they are nearing completion

speaking of completion the melta guy is done now

i free handed the eagle in blue as you can see

on the other side i free handed a troops arrow with a roman numeral I in there

just need to touch up a lot of white armor

im done for the day

busy busy again

progress

thanks for the feedback and stuff

the squad sgt has the most detail of this unit so i finished him next

shut in my room as its been a weird few days around here

the superintendent where i live is extra annoying and drunk these days and i might move

also i found a connection between the math i do and "the guy who knew infinity"s number

only the smartest math mind in all of history but meh right... just 100 year old stuff that no one has looked in from a certain pov

whatever

hey look really small painted dude

med_gallery_217558_16448_755114.png med_gallery_217558_16448_414510.pnggallery_217558_16448_786615.png

5 of 11 done

ill drybrush all the bases once they are all done

gallery_217558_16448_170638.png

gallery_217558_16448_1150084.png

little details

this 5 man squad has no legs with badges/awards on them; thats the other 5 man squad

this unit has skull helmets as much as possible on backpacks helmets weapons

if i add more dudes later on they will be consistent with the unit so far

i will probably add badges/awards on the original 5 once the reserves are added to keep the lore of the creation of this army in tact

yes the eagle heads are inconsistent and off but meh

they look alright

i really like the white with the purple and gold

heres the HQ after 2hrs

med_gallery_217558_16448_37488.jpg

just needs the armor fixed up
