Hi all,

I've had a search of the forums and on Google, but I can't find a decent tutorial for olive skin.  By olive skin I mean the skin tone you naturally get around the Med.  It could be me, but I think it's slightly different to tanned white skin.  I tried using the 'darker skin' tutorials I've found and they look too pink, if that makes sense?

I've been trying a combo of 70% Steel Legion Drab and 30% Cadian Fleshtone, and it's kind of close, but I wondered if anyone had a better combo?  This is for the skin for my chapter, who're Ancient Egyptian Space Ninjas, and one of my Guard regiments, who're Perisan Drop Troops.

Bryan, that looks like a great resource for me so thank you!

I'm interested in adding some different tones to my VIth Legion Heresy Era (I imagine they'd be Terrans as I don't recall any canon of darker toned Fenrisians and assumed this was due to the way Fenris is, I could be wrong though and just because they're not mentioned doesn't mean they don't exist) and this is pretty handy.

Bitzbox posted a tutorial for doing Olive skintones, maybe this can help?

Iirc, the Space Wolf novels stated the equatorial tribes of Fenris had some darker-skinned people.

Makes sense, I just couldn't recall the distribution of Fenris given it's a death world of extremes. Would make sense to see it closer to the equator though.

Not read those books in years. To Ebay!

One of the Adeptus Astartes' enhancements is an organ (iirc) that controls their melonin (sp), which reacts to the levels of radiation on whichever planet they are currently on, making their skin either lighter or darker. This is the organ that malfunctions on Nocturne for the Salamanders. This means a Space Marines skin colour IS NOT set for life, and not necessarily determined by their pre-elevation genetics.

I'd typically use a mix of white and yellow with a hint of red to paint northern European skintones. To get a Mediterranean-style olive skin. I'd add a hint of green. As the complementary colour to red, it neutralises it, making it slightly greyer without killing the vibrancy (as would happen with black). The result is less pink.

In GW colour terms, I'd suggest you try adding a hint of Elysian Green or Ogryn Camo to the mix you're describing, or start from scratch and use a mix of White Scar and Yriel Yellow, with touches of Evil Sunz Scarlet and Straken Green.

Yep, it's the Melanchromic Organ.  Darkens in response to sunlight, and protects from radiation.

Thanks for the advice and links everyone.  Clearly my search terms in Google need some work!   I'll give things a try and post results in case anyone else tries to do this later.  One more voice to add to the collective, so to speak.
