MithrilForge
Ok Me again, looks like i'm starting a series or something with all these "New Player Advice" posts Anyways as the title says "commando's" are they good?.. Is there a sole purpose to them?, what kit out's are versatile? And should I convert them from Nobz? or Boyz? I have a pack of spellcrow Commando heads from a while back that I think can be used now ... and I have some backpacks, stick bombz and knife type choppa's set aside for when I approach this conversion... thoughts?, Tips! ... as always appreciated... Cheers, Mithril Kierdale 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365385-new-player-advice-kommandos/ Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
I was going to recommend the Forge World Ork Kommando conversion set but that looks to be gone as well. Shame, as they looked pretty good and took considerably less time for cleanup compared to the GW Finecast equivalent. I also used some parts from Kromlech and GW Stormboyz to add variety. As for their performance on the tabletop, I have no idea. I just thought dumping a unit of boys on the opponent's side of the table was both annoying and thematically appropriate for my Blood Axe army. I painted up a Boss Snikrot to go with them but I couldn't tell you if he is worth taking in 9th edition. MithrilForge
Nice models !, and thanks for the tips, although I don’t buy forgeworld as a personal vow.. but let’s not Get distracted and go into that ;-) So boys seem ok sized for this , I’m guessing eventually I’d want 10 in a squad .., ?!?.. so as a funsies unit they’re good then (which I’m aiming for, plus I guess it puts my opponent on the back foot with him thinking something hidden is in his backfield !!! . Holier Than Thou
These are my Kommandos, Da Killa Bushiz. Need to get round to drilling the barrels for everyone but it's a helluva lot of barrels. toaae
Kommandos are great, and will probably have a much stronger place on the table-top in 9th. For one point more than a boy, you get a unit that can deep-strike for free. The cover bonus is just that, a bonus. The big deal is the free deepstrike. Now, you lose a few things for that: first, they aren't a troop choice (a much bigger deal in 8th than in 9th, but it's still a factor), which means you don't get ObSec (unless Deathskulls); second, they can only go to 15 models; third, they don't get a bonus attack like boys do.Really, those negatives aren't that big a deal. Kommandos can be used just like a boyz unit that has been put in the tellyporta. You can bring in a squad of 15 anywhere on the board to threaten an objective, or you could use small squads to force the enemy to screen out their back line to prevent you from jumping on the soft, squishy stuff. I really think Kommandos have a place in Ork lists in 9th, primarily to save CP. Smoke Frog
Any chance there will be a new kit for them in the future? Like a combined tankbusta/commando plastic kit? Also curious if aside from Forgeworld if anyone knows of a company who does good commando heads with goggles. I have seen berets before (paratrooper orks) but thats it. MithrilForge
I got mine from Spellcrow, got some Beret heads and also the classic WWII British commando beanie heads look, those are the heads I’ll be using on my ladz !, the boss Nib will have a beret but the rest will be beanies .
