Jade Dynasty in its 1st game of 9th

Finally got a chance to get a 9th game in. I wanted to try out a few of the new units and see how mass destroyers would work. Played against my friends Nid army. He has had multiple games so far and expected an uphill battle as prior edition rules interfered with my head on learning the new stuff.

Mephrit batt+patrol

Command Barge- rod of light-Lightning field

Cryptek- cloak

Destroyer Lord staff of light

3x 5 Immortals with tesla

8 Praetorians with pistol and sword

6 Destroyers

3 Wraiths

Tomb Sentinel with gloom prism

Royal Warden

Skorpekh Lord with Veil of Darkness

 3 Skorpehks + plasmacyte

Tomb Sentinel with gloom prism

1 x 5 Immortal squad with tesla

He had a list that worked well for him in a prior game and wanted to play it a bit more. He did the hive fleet that moves really fast

Flyrant with some sort of 3 shot relic

2 Carnifex with guns

2 squads of three Tyrant Guard

3 squads of 20 Genestealers

6 Zoanthropes

1 Zoanthrope HQ guy

We had a mix of terrain and played primary only although I think if I had done secondaries I would have blown him out of the water even worse as you will see. 6 objectives and  playing board end to board end. It was his place so he picked the mission and set up the board fairly.

His set up had each of the guard squads on an objective and a 20 man stealer squad on the third objective, all in cover. The other two squads were as far forward on either side of the board and the Fexes coming up one flank as a pair and the mob of zoos floating on the other side. The flyrant was hidden behind a large central terrain piece in the back.

I had my destroyers set back but in movement range to get into range of the carnofexes backed up by the destroyer lord and cryptek. I had each immortal squad on an objective with two on the center + the warden and my CCB. My Praetorians were on the far right. Centipedes went into deepstrike.

Round 1: He won the roll off and advanced all the genestealers and moved the fexes and zoos forward. Since I had not deployed as far forward as I could have he was out of charge range. The fexes and guards managed to kill a destroyer while the Zoos smited one center immortal squad into nothingness. I countered by moving the  destroyers forward and lord doing his my will be done n them, the wraiths advanced into easy charge range while the praetorians backed up behind the right side immortals. Skorpekhs + lord stayed in a safe building in the far left corner. My shooting dropped a carnifex and got the other one down to one wound. I had a lot of tesla fire into the left genestealers and reduced them a bit before charging them with the wraiths, destroyers and destroyer lord. The wraiths reduced them to below 10 models losing them their bonus, they killed 2 more destroyers before the final three and my lord killed the rest. I think I killed a couple with long range tesla on the other side.

Round 2: He set up the carnie for a charge, moved forward with the genestealers and made a huge mistake in the psychic phase by putting catalyst on the objective holding genestealers and not the ones on the far right. He ended up shooting my destroyers and dropping them to 1 model with 1 wound, his Tyrant guard shot my center destroyer squad which I had moved slightly forward to be on the objective and reduced them to one model and his Zoos smited the wraiths and reduced one to one model. He failed his charge with his genestealers on my right side immortal squad and he charged the lone destroyer with the carnie and my destroyer lord intervened. His close combat wiffed bad failing to wound the destroyer and the lord then killed the final wound on the carnie.

On my turn I regened 2 destroyers and no immortals. Praets moved forward to the genestealers, my warden and lone immortal also moved to within LOS while holding the objective and my lord moved up. Destroyers and escorts moved to get the tyrant guards in range. Wraiths moved within relatively easy charge range of the zoos, my skorpekhs veiled to 9" of the tyrant guard on the right side, while a centipede popped up 9" from the other squad. The other centipede popped up 9" from the zoo HQ guy. My shooting dropped the right genestealer squad significantly. The pede and destroyers took out the left guard squad pretty easily. I had a mass of charges and the skorpehks + lord managed to get into combat and wiped that squad. My right side pede charged the zoo HQ and inflicted no damage. Wraiths charged the zoos and did enough damage to drop their super smite down to normal. Praets charged the genestealers and dropped them to two models and took a single loss of their own.

Round 3: He brought the tyrant out and close range with the skorpekh lord and did not notice the plasmacyte behind a wall(but visible). He extended the genestealer squad to hold two objectives(which apparently hasn't been FAQ'd yet). He decided not to withdraw the zoos from combat as he wanted to do psyker powers. He cast catalyst on the genestealers first which my gloom prism denied(GO 5 Pt Upgrade!). He smited with his zoo hq and got double 1s. Rerolled and got double 1s but only took 1 damage. The other zoos failed their smite cast as well. I forget what the flyrant cast and might had gotten the catalyst off anyway. He did cast smite and did a point of damage to my skorpehks because he didn't noticed my plasmcyte was closer than my skop lord. I forget if shooting went into the lord of the skorps but I don't think any damage was done. In close combat he did 3 damage to my lord and I returned damage to it pretty well. The zoo fight was predicatable and I might have killed a zoo but no damage to the HQ one. Since I got to pick the first non-charge combat, my praets finished off the two remaining genestealers and consolidated towards the zoos.

My turn brought back another destroyer and moved  the left side pede close to the "center" untouched genestealers. My regular skorpekhs moved to auto-charge range of the flyrant. I rolled well with my shooting and the pede, CCB, and destroyers managed to drop the genestealers down to like 4 of them. Enough to where my right pede was out of charge range. The destroyers charged the remaining stealers, the skorpehks charged the flyrant, and the praets charged into the zoo fight with about five on the 2 zoos and the other 3 on the HQ guy. Lost a skorpehk to the plasmacyte but we quickly finished him off. He wounded a destroyer when he interrupted but they finished them off and took the objective. The zoo fight was a wash.

Round 4-5: Game was over at this point but we wanted to see how annoying the zoos could be so we continued with just the units involved in that fight. He psyked and smited 8 wounds from the praetorians. Close combat killed one more zoo. On my turn, I rez protocol all four dude back and do a wound to the HQ zoo. In my turn 5 his lucky dice run out on him and he starts failing invul saves and both the last zoo and the HQ.

So in after thought, I was not impressed with the CCB or the royal warden. I really liked the centipedes and would like to try putting my third one on the field. The skorpehks were evil, they did a great job. I am looking forward to the new heavy destroyers and the pistol dude  to continue building my destroyer cult.
