Jolemai
Welcome to part five of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series! Following the release of the 8th edition Codex, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still), and part four will discuss the Legends units that we still own and love. Finally, part five will be dedicated to the reinforcements from Forge World. Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed. Without further ado, here's this week's entry: Relic Sicaran Omega Tank Destroyer What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Sicaran Omega (currently a download from here) To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)? Will you be running multiple units? The Omega Plasma Array has two firing modes. Preferences? Targets? What optional weapons choices are you taking and does the above affect how you run them? Are you buffing this unit? If so, how? Stratagems of note? Over to you. Please note that the Relic Sicaran Arcus Strike Tank, Relic Sicaran Battle Tank, Relic Sicaran Punisher Assault Tank, and Relic Sicaran Venator will be discussed elsewhere. Xenith
The model looks ace, but as I recall falls flat in its role as a "tank destroyer". I'm keen to hear other's experiences with this!
Majkhel
Having the model, I can definitely agree that it looks awesome. And if someone likes to paint plasma glows, it gives you over 7" of opportunity to do just that :DOnly has 3 shots at 24" on the 'overcharged' profile, so a bit meh. It needs those lascanon sponsons and HK missile (which increases it's points cost by almost 25%) to have a chance of killing tank in one go. The fact that it's not (and most probably will not be) "Core" means it needs a dedicated Techmarine (so additional 70/80pts) to increase it's ability to land it's few quality shots. And that's all the help it can get. Unfortunately Chaplain's '+1 to wound' litany also affects "Core" now, so no increased chances for MWs.Range is an issue. Despite the fact it's pretty fast and the generally smaller table sizes, it might require some effort to line-it-up for some shots. And when that happens. it will be in range of the enemy too.
