Stupidity
I would really like to hear about peoples experiences with this stratagem against 6 and up toughness units. Can it turn blobs of Reaper Warriors and Guass Tomb blades into viable anti vehicle tools? Or it inferior to Relentless onslaught? It seems especially tasty when used by Mephrit as the added AP adds value to wounds. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
Disintegration Capacitors helped me bring down a knight (full-sized, too, not one o them piddly armigers) to kill-range with my Phaeron and his voidreaper. Thirty-odd shots auto-wounding on sixes to hit is somewhat ridiculous. Plus I think it can be combined with Relentless Onslaught, but whether or not those extra hits are autowounds is another matter. Miek
I'm quite sure the auto wounds can't trigger relentless onslaught because they aren't actually rolled, but I'm sure combining them on a 20 warriors unit would still be worth it, especially if combined with MWBD and a Triarch Stalker. I might run the numbers for the heck of it if I get bored this weekend! Edit: Was thinking of talent for annihiliation, not relentless onslaught. Captain Idaho
I'd agree with that. Still a powerful combination. I think Isolationists combined with it will be very strong. Miek
Isolationists would only bring gauss flayers to the reapers' strength at 12"; I don't think it would be worth dropping mephrit if we're trying to maximize the warriors' antitank effectiveness. Anticontrarian
The interaction between Disintegration Capacitors and Relentless onslaught is spelled out in the 40K FAQ - if you roll a 6, you automatically wound, and also gain another hit which needs to roll to wound as per usual. Rolling a little hot with My Will Be Done running and getting more hits than you had attacks, PLUS a bunch of extra auto-wounds, is absolutely hilarious! Miek
I'm sorry I confused the stratagem names (went from memory). I was thinking about talent for annihilation. You're right. Edit: I calculate a mean of just under 10 unsaved wounds (including mortals) from 20 Mephrit warrios boosted by MWBD, a Triarch Stalker, Disintegration Capacitors (1CP), Relentless Onslaught (1CP), Talent for Annihilation (Mephrit, 1CP), Vengeful Star within half range of a T7 target. Here's a summary (mean over 10k runs): hits 38.903 auto_wounds 7.838 wounds 20.767 mortal_wounds 2.953 damage 9.909 Here's the code: https://gist.github.com/miek770/37408656beabed4f410260c7abcaaadf For T8 targets (ex.: Land Raider), the final damage drops to just under 8. I *think* reapers would be worse because they wouldn't benefit from Relentless Onslaught and half range would be 6", but it'd be worth calculating (my time is up though). That's a lot of CP, but the other boosts come from great units (CCB and TS) and a powerful dynasty (Mephrit). Edit: I'm currently improving the script to make the application of the various bonuses simpler (ex.: Vengeful star is not applied correctly at the moment) and to facilitate other tests (ex.: Tomb blades). I'll share the final version if ppl are interested. Will require Python and the pandas library. Stupidity
Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like a decent way to hurt, if not kill vehicles to me, especially with Guass Tomb Blades. Really looking forward to getting those on the field. Miek
Hi again, made several improvements to the code and removed the previous one, here it is: https://gist.github.com/miek770/d662a1307fd77f5f0f2cc3d9ccbf8229. I'll use this as a starting point for my future calculations and will probably keep improving it; combining all those factors is a bit complex... I removed Vengeful Stars entirely. It seems very weak against vehicles anyways. Gauss flayer warriors do more damage (~10) even against a land raider (T8) compared to reapers (~9) and gauss tomb blades (~8), but 3CP is 3CP... Captain Idaho
Isolationists would only bring gauss flayers to the reapers' strength at 12"; I don't think it would be worth dropping mephrit if we're trying to maximize the warriors' antitank effectiveness. If against Toughness 7, Mephrit is certainly going to have the edge at 12". Against Toughness 8, Isolationists is going to be superior, since you won't be wounding on a 6+. Although hurting vehicles with our Warriors is a great bit of utility, I think Isolationists helps with hurting infantry targets much more than Mephrit, if you're using Gauss rapid fire. Can it turn blobs of Reaper Warriors and Guass Tomb blades into viable anti vehicle tools? Or it inferior to Relentless onslaught? It seems especially tasty when used by Mephrit as the added AP adds value to wounds. It buffs your damage Vs high toughness by 50% (assuming hitting on 3's). That's not enough to make a unit an anti-tank threat, but it is enough to make them a more versatile unit. I've been using 10 man Gauss Immortal units Vs Iron Hands, and they strip 4 or 5 wounds off a Redemptor - which is often enough to finish them off after my other anti-tank doesn't do the job. I wouldn't bother using it on anything you wound on a 4 or better for certain, I've tried comboing it with Relentless Onslaught, and I usually find that one of the two strats is wasted depending on the target (infantry or high T units respectively). Stupidity
@ Captain Idaho There are more S5 Core/Guass weapons than S4. Even Warriors get a S5 weapon and a way to deepstrike in at closer than 7.5" @ dreadmad Thanks for the input. Exactly what I was asking for. Captain Idaho
Yeah totally. The beauty of Isolationists is it works for Rapid Fire weapons, so a Warrior unit can fire at ranges over 12" as normal still, but be bumped up to S5 up close.
