So I am assembling a wordbearers force and I have a blood slaughterer of Khorne, a Contemptor dread, a Venomcrawler and a disco lord already in the way of demon engines. I have picked up the decimation force battlebox and I’m about to start work on the forge/maulerfiend. Bearing in mind that it looks like they are going up to WS3/ BS3, what do you guys think would be the sensible option for building it. I definitely prefer the forgefiend model, but it seems like Maulerfiends are where it’s at for CSM at the moment. Am I likely to be gimping myself going with my preference or are the Forgefiends actually an alright choice, and if they are OK what dot you think are the best guns for them?

Bear in mind any advice now will only last until there is a new CSM codex. The best way to build a model is the one that you think looks most awesome. Forgefiends were weaker as BS4+ just doesnt cut it. Going to 3+ is a massive boost for them, and we have no idea what the new weapon rules will be like.

Thanks Xenith, all very true. I guess I’m just keen to get it put together. Also, as we don’t have a due date on the new dex, It’s possible that I could be playing with the current rules for quite some time! Does anyone know if it’s easy to magnetise?

Should be very easy. I've seen a version where they attach the guns to the carapace and use the mauler arms and legs, then the guns mag on when they want to run it as a forge fiend.

Magging the head, guns, and gun connectors will be easy, the guns are quite long so I'd say use larger surface area mags, maybe 4-5mm x 1-2mm so they dont slip.

I've magnetised the forgefiend, and it wasn't too tough, though I had to also add a pin to the guns to prevent them from drooping - feel free to use the messenger function to contact me if you want more details.  Not sure how difficult making it swappable with a maulerfiend would be.
