Macbeefin
Hi guys, I'm trying to build the foundation of my first Heresy army. While reading Book VII I decided I really wanted to imagine the Order of Blindness on the table, that shadowy order of the Thousand Sons who specialised in sabotage and espionage. This interpretation of them has a core of Recon Marines infiltrating into forward positions, before using a combination of Amon's warlord trait and the Guard of the Crimson King RoW to outflank a unit of Destroyers and teleport Sekhmet right into the enemy's midst. I think the biggest issues with the list will be that it might find it hard to counteract dreadnoughts, and that the initial on-table force of Recons and Seekers may get blown away T1 before the heavy hitters can come down. To mitigate this I would try deploy my recons out of sight, and use Amon's warlord trait to bring the Destroyers and Moritat in T2 to relieve some of the pressure. Hopefully then there will be still some nuncio-vox left to guide down the Sekhmet and Amon. I'm also worried about two units of Sekhmet being too cheesy for 2k Centurion. Overall I am aiming to run something that is distinctly Thousand Sons and remains true to the theme of the Order of Blindness. Lautrec the Embraced
Hello, I'd say it looks very cool! It's a niche concept but interesting and unique. I wouldn't worry about being too aggressive with those Sekhmets, everyone knows they are OP as [REDACTED] but you bring only 10 and if you play vs TS you expect them anyway. I have a few ideas that might work out: - First of all, is Amon allowed to be the warlord in GotCK? I don't know myself but I remember reading some reviews claiming so. I wouldn't vouch for that though... - Sekhmets, as any Terminators, should be able to scratch a dreadnought. 1-2 chainfist are in my opinion practically mandatory. - I like the mix of Recons, Destroyers, Seekers and Ammitara. But I'd wager that you can get more miieage if you adjust the squad sizes as currently you have maxed out recon squads and minimum size rest. All Ammitara, Destroyers and Seekers are really expensive, at av 30+ pts because of the inbuilt initial tax. These unit i'd treat as the real hitters unlike recon who is mostly to claim objectives or hope to destroy some vehicle. So, additional scouts are 15 pts+5pts due to bombs. Extra destroyers are also 20 pts (15 pts base+JP) and so are AIntercessors and Seekers. This would give me a clear signal, that you should take as much Seekers, Destroyers and Ammitara at the cost of less Recons. 5 men squad evaporates really quickly on the front line so more destroyers is a must. And additinal Seekers or Ammitara will be way more useful than recons with shotties as they are actually able of killing marines. - Unlike Vigilator, Moritat is always close to the enemy, so combat is often inevitable. Buy him a weapon - he swings it better than a mere sergeant. Varyn
I like the theme of the list :) For the sanity of anyone reading the list I would recommend taking out all of the following equipment entries: bolt pistols, combat blades/chainswords, frag & krak grenades, power armour, it will make your list much easier on the eyes! :) Firstly, I think you need to take Ahriman, a ML3 praetor or Magnus as your warlord for this rite of war. I think that your destroyers should be a larger unit, preferably 7-10, you could drop a couple of recon marines in each unit to help with the points. Melta bombs are also a good option on destroyers. I would drop the plasma gun from the Ammitara unit as it doesn't have great range synergy with the sniper rifles. Sekhmet can be a little rough in centurion, perhaps run them in tartaros armour so they're a bit less durable? I would also put a couple of chainfists in each Sekhmet unit so they can tackle dreadnoughts What is the plan for the vigilator, which unit will he join? likewise where do you plan to put Amon? You're a bit light on ranged anti-tank, maybe add a deredeo dreadnought or some laser rapiers? Hope that helps! Macbeefin
Thanks for the input guys. On second look it seems Amon can't be Warlord for this Rite as you've both said. I though he may have been validated by being a ML3 Praetor-type character but it doesn't appear to be so. I'll have to replace him with a ML3 Praetor, and give him similar kit so he can at least pretend to be Amon on the field. Otherwise I will likely reduce the number of Recons and fill out the Destroyers, then throw a few chainfists in with the Sekhmet. @Varyn - I would probably put the Vigilator with the Seekers, so he can cast Prescience on them for those re-rolls. That may be redundant considering they are Cult Corvidae so maybe making them Raptora would be smarter. Amon/Praetor would drop in with the terminators, aiming to buff them with Divination.
