"It is on their shoulders the future of the Canis Salient rests. The whole right arm of the Crusade, thrust like a spear into the guts of the alien T'au. The Hunter Cadres of the Tsua'Malor Viorla resist everywhere, almost as maddened as the Lord Commander for death and glory. Yet we seek victory, a crushing blow to the xenos hordes that infest the worlds of the Greyhell Front. With the Emperor's blessing - it shall be delivered."

- Bastion Commander Saran Gholbert, 23rd Hethgard Fusiliers.

This thread will hold the details for all Characters in the upcoming Kill Team Operation: Head Hunted.

Oridyn Loth

gallery_45765_5904_22250.jpg
Oridyn Loth, circa 997.M41 (artwork by Harry Osborn)

Chapter of Origin: Exorcists

Role upon Induction: Apothecarion-Initiate, seconded to the 4th Company

Deathwatch Specialism: Apothecary

Character Sheet: +[EXTERNAL LINK]+

Appearance:

Loth is of average Astartes height (2.3m) with short dark hair and dark piercing eyes. His olive skin is pale, almost sallow from the countless hours spent with a helmet sealed on or deep in the Chapter librarium studying esoteric lore. His voice would be described as orotund if not for a sandpaper-like roughness due to damage to his vocal chords sustained three years into the Zendel Purges at Rezyk-Dov Pass.

A lattice of scars, tattooed script, and carefully-inked designs mark Loth’s skin. These, along with a number of bionic replacements and bio-grafts, are a testament to both his loyal service to his Chapter and the Emperor, and the inherently dangerous nature of his craft.

His right arm, from the elbow down, is a bionic replacement: the original was lost to a rusty cleaver wielded by a dark-skinned Ork in the same fight that saw significant damage dealt to his throat and chest.

Personality:

Oridyn Loth, unlike many of his brethren, is jovial in speech and manner. This friendly demeanour hides a sharp analytical mind and fanatical devotion to waging war in the Emperor’s name. For Loth, the end justifies the means, no matter what the Imperium must sacrifice to safeguard its own future.

Similarly, his ascension from savage child living on the blasted plains of Banish to a biologically- and chemically-engineered instrument of war, and the extreme rituals all Chapter aspirants must complete before being made a fully-fledged battle-brother of the Exorcists, has made it clear in Loth’s mind that Astartes are a creation superior in every way to the other species that inhabit the galaxy, including the humans they were molded from and are sworn to protect. This view is somewhat tempered by fragments of memories relating to what happened to the aspirants who failed the aforementioned rituals.

A noteworthy quirk is that of seldom removing his helmet, something that Oridyn Loth has never explained to anyone outside of the Chapter due to the secrecy surrounding the occult Exorcist rites. The portrait attached to this datafile is remarkably in that it is the only portrait ever made of this individual.

Orithean Ains
Chapter of Origin: Bloodmoon Hunters
Role upon Induction:Artificer-Initiate of 1st Company
Deathwatch Specialism: Techmarine-based
Character Sheet:

Appearance:
Ains is broad shouldered even for a Space Marine, made even worse by extensive augmetics. He is 2.7 metres tall, with green augmented eyes and very short length red hair. He always gives off an air of being either on the hunt or in thought from curiosity. His Left Arm is highly augmented with an exceptionally well crafted bionic of his own design.

Personality:
Artificer Ains is a Marine living in the shadow of his Mentor the current greatest Forge Lord of the Bloodmoon Hunters, Forge Lord to the Chapter Master himself. Minister of the Forge is considered one of his mentor's equals. Recruited by this legend at an early time in the Chapter, Ains distinguished himself with insatiable curiosity but Ains is still very much like his brothers for all his advanced knowledge, a Paranoid hunter whose reliance on stealth and secrecy is paramount. Unlike other Artificers he has not specialized in the usual kind of puppetry for combat. Usually Artificers would use armies of Servitors and Cyber familiars to accomplish their hunting. He, however, specialized is close hunting using his bionics and whatever other tricks that came to his devious mind to get up close and personal. His favored form of Trophy collection was making Knives out of his kills.

Khordelia-Cáo

Chapter of Origin: Mantis Warriors

Role upon Induction: Tactical Marine

Deathwatch Specialism: Apothecary

Character Sheet: +[uNKNOWN]+

Appearance:

Cáo is 2.5 metres tall, with green eyes and below shoulder length black hair. His face is remarkably untouched for an Astarte of his age, brown skin that bears faint, near ghostly marks of surgical procedure. His face could be called handsome were he a mortal man. But he is not, and his visage reflects the inhumanity of the insects his chapter hails their name from, with piercing eyes giving mortals and sometimes even Astartes the impression that Cáo is looking beyond their skin into their hearts and souls even while he smiles and laughs with them. While his face is unmarred, the rest of his body is not, scarred and irrevocably changed by a life at war. His clear voice can best be described as even, without pretence or grandeur, one that even could be described as friendly could one be foolish enough to call an ancient weapon friendly.

He moves his right leg with a slight awkwardness that is only evident to the sharp eyed of the Astartes, while his lip noticeably twitches and trembles in times of extreme stress. Whether legacy of Badab or an earlier conflict is unknown, and Cáo does not speak of it.

He wears a MKIV helmet, the rest of his suit MKVII. Curiously, the helm bears black iron trim on its brow and engraved runes of perhaps-Fenrisian provenance on its forehead. There are two long purity seals on each pauldron bearing runes from a planet long lost to his brothers. On his neck he wears a Fenrisian rune carved in grey stone on a loop of black cloth.

Personality:

Cáo is a personable Astarte, often engaging in conversation with those who desire it. To Astartes however, he is more careful with his speech. Behind his affability Cáo grieves because of Badab and the penitence of his Chapter.

He is humorous at most times, falling into silence as the vice grip of war tightens. Behind the friendly visage is the mind of a veteran who has survived long wars for a reason. After Badab, his outlook is that the Imperium and humanity must be protected at all costs. He does not look down upon humans, having seen the effects of that mode of thought on Huron's followers, and will often go out of his way to protect those who he can. This behaviour has earned him the ire of some amongst the Mantis Warriors who seek only to restore the Chapter's glory at any price, and some amongst Chapter command look upon this attitude as madness from the foolish Wolves.

History:

902.M41. Inducted at the age of 12 in a programme to replenish the numbers of the Mantis Warriors.

910.M41. Joined as a Tactical Marine in 7th Company, Squad Carpe.

970.M41. Swears the Oath of the Apothecary, is granted a reductor.

976.M41. Participates in battle alongside two Great Companies in the Fan-Sang Hold, a group of worlds defending relics of the Imperium. Earns commendation from Egil Ironwolf after he saves gene seed of two fallen Grey Hunters and stabilises the dire condition of Pack Leader Ragnar. Ragnar and Cáo exchange helms as a sealing of mutual brotherhood.

982.M41. Is badly wounded in a duel against the Eldar Autarch known as Hawk-Blood on the planet of Mandur-Het but cuts down the Autarch, scattering the remaining Eldar forces.

990.M41. Caught in the crossfire of a battle between Heretic Astartes and Tau, he leads his company out of the mire of battle and saves the geneseed of many warriors. Receives a commendation for this action.

997.M41. Fighting alongside the Gatebreakers, Cáo is a key member of the 'Ceramite Spear' led by a combined force of Mantis Warriors and Gatebreakers who storm the capital of heretic Governor Octavian Andron, ending a long and bloody conflict near the Endworlds.

998.M41. Volunteers to join the Deathwatch and is selected after long tests, he is sent to Watch Fortress Erioch.

Brynjarr

Chapter of Origin: Voidborn
Role upon Induction: Breacher Squad line marine
Deathwatch Specialism: Tactical Marine
Character Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11-7mC0Qji1slC9z5o0wzeZXNVKPQXU97-uUdxxQr87s/edit#gid=721790139

Appearance:

Brynjarr is small for a marine, and out of armour could almost pass as an average human. His skin has a dark grey huge to it. A common trait among the Voidborn and their fleets human crew, though more normal skin tones are also found amongst crew and Voidborn depending on their origin. He has short black hair and an equally dark beard that he keeps neatly trimmed so as to ensure that his helmet always fits and no stray hair can compromise the integrity of the seal.

His armour, as is standard for Voidborn, is hardened and adapted for extended time in vacuum. In Brynjarr’s case the core components are from a MkVIII suit. Whether it is a homage by the chapter artificers to an earlier age, or just a practicality of a shared design, but the adaptation share some visual similarities to the Power Armour from the time that the Emperor walked amongst his sons in less troubled times.

The perfect black of Voidborn armour is covered in depictions of the stars and constellations in which the individual marine had served, and functions as both personal heraldry, history of service and bond of brotherhood with marines who served alongside and bear the same starts. Brynjarrs armour however is completely devoid of any such marks upon his arrival at the Watch Station. For him joining the Deathwatch is a chance to be reborn, to tread a new path and earn fresh stars to mark his armour.

Personality:

As the younger son of human Officers in the Voidborn Chapter fleet Brynjarr strove hard to live up to the achievements of his siblings. When Brynjarr was selected for initiation into the chapter he felt vindicated and that he had now surpassed his siblings. However during the long hard years that followed the same self doubt and sense of inferiority crept back in for while he survived and graduated to full marine it was by the barest of scraps and the lowest of marks.

While Brynjarr underestimates his own abilities as a result he has made an excellent line marine and his tenacious will to go on and prove himself better is where others see potential in him.

Brynjarr when carefree and untroubled is light hearted and jovial, easily falling into conversation with brothers and normal humans.

History:

Early Years

The third son of Fleet officers aboard a Chapter Escort Eyes of the Marshal attached to the chapter Battle Barge Darktide, Brynjarr was set to follow his siblings and parents footsteps when he was deemed to have the potential for the honour of becoming a Voidborn marine. However young Brynjarr’s life nearly ended there as he barely survived, surviving the lengthy training, surgeries and introduction into the Voidborn by will alone at times. As a capable line marine he served in the second Breacher squad of the 4th Void-Company aboard the Strike Cruiser Darkclaw.

The Death of Brynjarr

While the Darkclaw was on a joint patrol with Imperial Navy fleets they caught traces of an Ork fleet. The combined flee gave chase and the resultant running battle took several months, as the Voidborn and Imperial elements could never quite catch the main Ork fleet, only ever outliers and vanguard.

Eventually a full fleet on fleet battle in the Phainon system saw the majority of the Ork fleet. However not before a flanking Ork force that had used the systems gas giant to sneak up on the combined fleet and launched bordering parties. The Voidborn and larger Imperial Navy ships managed to beat back any boards without significant damage the same cannot be said for several of the Navy Escort vessels hardest hit. In an attempt to save these the Voidbord launched counter borders to those ships.

The Escort that Brynjarr’s squad was dispatch to was however beyond saving despite the bitter and hard fought attempt to reclaim it. During the extraction of the marines as the ship was falling into the gas giant Brynjarr was separated from his brothers by a mob of Ork. His brother held on as long as they could but eventually had to cast of from the doomed ship and Brynjarr was recorded as having gone down with the ship.

The Years of Separation

Unbeknown to the Chapter Brynjarr managed to get onto one of the Ork assault crafts and while he could not operate it he did manage to get it to disengage from the falling Esscort. The tempest raging in the gas giant upper atmosphere flung the assault craft out and into orbit. Imperial Ships in the vicinity identified the craft as Ork and shot at it until it broke apart. The majority fell back into the gas giant but the part that Brynjarr was in spiraled out and eventually crushed into one of the gas giant’s moon.

Conditions on the surface where hostile to life, and while Brynjarr’s void harden armour could keep him safe the only long term survival was possible in underground cave networks. Brynjarr knew from earlier briefings that there where Imperial outposts on some of the moons, but as he did not know on which moon he was, or where in relation to any Imperial outpost he had no idea where to head.

Brynjarr would come up to the surface to locate further usable caves and to systematically search for any Imperial base until the need for food would drive him back into the caves. In the deeper caves scrapes of water and organic life could be found, and Brynjarr soon discovered that some Orks had also made it into the cave system. While they were initially a problem due to their numbers and Brynjarrs limited supply they eventually proved to be a usable food source without which Brynjarr would not have survived.

Four and a half years after he first crashed Brynjarr came across an abandoned mining outpost and over several months managed to get the vox system operational. Rescue however took another year as the range was limited and the first few contact he made either did not believe him, could not trace the source of the single or where otherwise unable to mount a rescue operation.

Eventually word reached the Imperial Governor of the inhabited Agri world in system and a rescue was successful. A astropathic message was successful in reaching the Voidborn, but it was the element of the chapter that are tied to the Battle Barge Dawnbreaker. Darktide and its associated fleet including Darkclaw had moved on to a new campaign and it was not deemed feasible to send even an Escort level ship to return one marine to his original company. Brynjarr was assigned to a Void-company stationed on Dawnbreaker. As such Brynjarr was back amongst his brother marines, but not the brothers he had lived, trained and fought with for so many decades.

Learning that he had been declared dead and having trouble reintegrating with the Chapter after the years of absence (and to Brynjarr the self perceived outcast status as every marine could clearly see from Brynjarr armour that he was not one who had served with them) led to strive between Brynjarr and other Voidborn. In a bid to help Brynjarr recover the senior Chaplain offer him chance of rebirth be serving with the Deathwatch. It would be a chance to start afresh, leave behind his old stars and earn a new path.

Sigtrygg "Silkbeard" Olafsson

<GX4ursS.jpg>
Silkbeard

Chapter of Origin: Space Wolves

Role upon Induction: Grey Hunter
Deathwatch Specialism: Tactical Marine

Character Sheet: Here

Personality and Appearance

Silkbeard is a giant of a man, specialising in siege war. Whether such a speciality attracts dour souls, or simply molds them is academic. Olafsson is grim by nature. Lukas the Trickster once joked Olafsson was a son of Perturabo who had gotten lost. This would have earned the trickster a black eye had he been slower on his feet. Olafsson is know for quiet use of ruthless tactics and a willingness to spend lives to get what he wants. Amoungst his packmates he is known as Silkbeard. He wears Mark III armour looted during one of his more recent siege raids.

History

Olafsson is a Grey Hunter. His impressive record of victories could have earned many other Grey Hunters a spot in their lord's wolf guard. Olafsson's sour nature has held him back from promotion. His most recent actions have been as part of a depredation fleet- raiding poorly guarded heretek enclaves for sequestered STC fragments. There he demonstrated his particular capability at wolf siege tactics- relying more on raiding speed and shock tactics than attrition. It was on one of these raids that he claimed his battered suit of MkIII iron armour of unknown provenance from a barrow of archaeotech grave goods. These actions have helped tie closer bonds between the Rout and the Forges of Cypria Mundi ("They're more human than he is" was a recurring quip amongst blood claws). Improvement in Olafsson's humours has been noted, and it is thought to be brought about by his interactions with these outsiders. This is why he has been chosen by his wolf lord to answer the most recent call for secondment to the Death Watch. Perhaps working with more outsiders might make a real Space Wolf out of Sigtrygg Silkbeard.

Ident: Shas'O Tu'uan Mal'Caor Sa'Cea Kais (AKA The Iron Spider)

Historical:

Hailing from Sa'Cea, this senior T'au officer has been active in three warzones known to the Imperium, the most recent being the Jericho Reach.  Never far from his bodyguard unit, with whom he is bonded (Addendum: Xenos Rites found in Holofile #240), he directs operations from his strategic command centre located in the Black Mountains, the central mountain range in the Southern hemisphere of the continent Primaris of Baraban.  He is believed responsible for a rapid offensive across the Jurkal Gap, which savaged two Regiments of Imperial Guard in a spate of ambushes and encirclements.

His forces are well prepared and highly disciplined combatants, most of their Fire Warrior teams, XV-8 and XV-88 groups carrying the Ta'lissera.  Pathfinder and Stealth teams are also in evidence, as are his Kroot and Vespid Auxliliaries who infest the forests and caves within the mountain peaks.  Affiliations with the so-called 'Ethereals' are unknown and our agents have been unable to confirm reports of their presence.

He is designated as Primary Target for Operation: Head Hunted.

Watch-Captain Anton Martinez

Chapter of Origin: Crimson Fists

Appearance:

Tall, broad and swarthy skinned, his face criss-crossed by scars and the weight of command, his blue eyes sit beneath a shock of short, black hair.  A smooth baritone voice conveys his orders without shouting, the cool clarity and level-headedness of his Parent Chapter borne out in his manner.  Currently serving under Watch Commander Mordigael, he was recently moved from Watch Station Closel, to direct operations centred on the Greyhell Front.

Delegated to deal with the situation on Baraban, he undertakes his task with calm industry, allocating resources as best he can, often clashing with the zealous Ordo Xenos Investigator Quintus Galleus, who constantly petitions him for support and materiel.  A veteran of the Zeist Campaign, his Chapter's traditional talents against Orks have been supplemented by his experience of the T'au, placing him as a foil against them.

When serving with the Crimson Fists during the Achilus Crusade, he was seconded to the Deathwatch for his first Vigil.  He has stood two Long Watches and the secrets of the alien are laid bare under his cold, hard gaze.  When he takes to the field, he is harnessed in Terminator Warplate, sporting not the power-fists so often favoured by his brethren, but a Storm Shield and the Relic Blade Riad. It is both a gift and reminder, having been previously wielded by Drigo Alvez, who fell in battle against the Orks during the Defence of Rynn's World, in 988.M41.

Watch Captain Martinez is the handler of three current Deathwatch Kill Teams, Hellebore being the last.  He is keen to see it is not the least.

She has been constantly petitioning Watch Captain Martinez for more resources to bring the Baraban situation under control.  This is ascribed to her firebrand zealotry against the aliens, but where this comes from is unknown, with her detractors in the Imperial Guard and Crusade Council suggesting the Inquisition always has its own agenda.

Mantanor Carde

Chapter of Origin: Dark Hunters

Role upon Induction: Tactical Marine, Conclave of Midnight, Haround (4th) Company

Deathwatch Specialism: Tactical

Character Sheet: +[EXTERNAL LINK]+

Appearance:

XXX

Personality:

As with many of his brothers in the Dark Hunters, Mantanor has a deep mistrust of machinery. The technology-worshipping Adeptus Mechanicus are held in little esteem. Fighting in the Dellrond Campaign saw little time or resources available for the marines to perform the proper ministrations to their wargear. This has drawn Carde into conflict with the easily distempered machine spirits of his Power Armour and he prefers to trust his own senses when on the hunt.

While the combat doctrine of the Dark Hunters promotes stealth and secrecy, the blood of the Khan still runs in Carde’s veins and he is capable of executing a swift and brutal hunt.

Selected History:

As with all members of the Dark Hunters, Carde’s training as an aspirant in the near-eternal gloom of the chapter’s home world of Phobian.

Most notably in Carde’s service record is his involvement in the Dellrond Campaign, where the 4th Company held an Imperial Cathedral for five Terran years against the forces of WAAAGH! Nagrut. The Dark Hunters repelled countless waves Ork attacks and as their numbers dwindled, Carde took part in several kill team strikes at Ork leadership or critical infrastructure. In the final push by Nagrut to take the Catherdral of the Emperor Ossified, Carde provided covering fire to his brothers who engaged and eventually slew the Warboss. This brutal conflict against the Greenskin menace forged Carde into a prolific Ork hunter and he was seen by chapter command as a natural choice for secondment into the Deathwatch.
