Brothers!

I was lurking on this forum for some time now (registered a decade ago!) and I finally have something I hope interesting to show and to discuss.

Almost 3 years ago I came back into the hobby after 7-8 years of hiatus thanks to Underworld and later Kill Team. Last year decided to dive full in into 40k with the Indomitus box. Of course I had to take Space Marines and of course not the boring smurs but the knight in black (not to be mistaken with the edgy Dark Green somethings...).

I'm all about converting / kitbashing / painting and then looking at my boys on the table - that is the most fun for me to see the minis on the table.

So I took the Indomitus box. Bashed it. Painted it. Now I'm buying more stuff :biggrin.:

Anyway below my current painted army:

Assault intercessors 1

Assault Intercessors 2

Bladeguard veterans

Ancient and Judicar

Captain, Sergeant, Chaplain

Eradicators

Outriders

Aaaaaaaand my pride and glory the Emperors chapmion (first unit outside of Indomitus :smile.: )

Emperors champion 1

Emperors champion 2

Emperors champion 3

Emperors champion 4

I have also pictures of the WIP's if somebody is interested :smile.:

That's a fine-looking force, Master222! I really like your painting style and the characterful kitbashes/conversions you've included in your force. Very distinctive. :tu:

What's the plan for the next step?

Outstanding. You have a great style that's all your own. Very nice.  I really like the ancient in particular. (BT ancients always look so damn good).

Thanks I dreaded the standard for the longest time (and still I think I can do it better) but for now I'm happy with the effect.

Of course I need a Redemptor dread (love dreads <3) and decided to go for a blob of Agressors (like their style, plus flamers for burning witches = win), and two more units of assaults since they are uber cheap now when buying them second hand from the Indomitus box. Later on either more bladeguards or maybe a second unit of eradicators.

I'm not 100% sure what else to add/change (apart from probably changing the waepons for sergeant on thos intercessors) since I'm not a pro gamer and don't like to min/max lists. So whenever the rool of cool takes me ;) (and my budget limitations).

Beautiful models! Absolutely nails the Templar vibe. The scythe fits the Judiciar so well, better than the original sculpt. And I love the two-handed Crozius.

And the EC is fantastic. The blade and eyes are so menacing. It almost looks like he's wielding a Daemon Weapon, similar to Purifier Grey Knights. Maybe the Crusade burned a heretic temple to the ground, but smouldering in the ashes was this blade: rather than permit it to fall into the hands of the local Imperial Guard, who would be swayed by its corrupting presence, the Chaplains anointed the Emperor's Champion and charged him with the sacred duty of keeping the daemon his prisoner forever!

Thank You for the warm comments :) (as warm as that burning blade). I got my butt kicked yeasterday in a match of 750 points but getting used to the game.

Anyway yeasterday I got one of my big bags of plastic so I can work on more Assaults soon. But before that here You go with some WIP pictures of my Primaris Apothecary and a very early mock-up of the Redemptor Dread:

So since some of my kits are still stuck in customs I wanted to work on the new Assault Intecessors I've bought recently. I was thinking of giving them thunder hammers and hand flamers (for the sarge). I could either scratch build the nozzles or clip them out of the Agressors but...

To be honest I don't know which variant of agressors to use (6 man squad) the bolter+rocket ones or flamer ones? Flamers are the more "cool" option for me but I don't know if it's better to give them more range and camp more on objectives, or give less range and assault onwards in a more "BT style". Somone has any advice?

When the range difference doesn't matter(e.g. outflank into closer than 12"), flamers usually have better damage output and lower cost.

Flamer 2D6 autohit = 7.0 hits on average. Boltstorm+frag 6+D6 shots = 6.33 hits on average. If you advance, the flamer still autohit.

P.S. Don't take 6 men in an infantry unit. The threat of blast weapon is everywhere.

Well the blob thing was mostly because the Elite slot is getting really crowded. For sure I want my Bladeguards, Dreadnought, Apothecary. I was also planning on taking the Judicar and Bladeguard Ancient but to be honest the Ancient is starting to feel like a waste of points since the 1 extra atack thing is basically useless from what I can see and the +1 to hit can be probably substituted from another abbility. Removing the ancient and I get a second slot for 2 squad of agressors and points to field even more assault intercessors!

With the flamers I'm a little afraid that those guys will be just sitting on a point and not shooting anything with the 12' range. But then again those burning witches...

  • 2 weeks later...

Yesterday I managed to paint the Apothecary and 3rd squad of Intercessors, maybe rushed them a little bit but hey - now I can actually field a batalion since I have 3 troop choices :D

Primaris Apothecary:

Black templar apothecary 1

Black templar apothecary 2

Black templar apothecary 3

Assault Intercessors 3rd squad:

Black templars 8

Black templars 8a

Black templars 8aa

Black templars 8b

Black templars 8c

Black templars 8d

Black templars 8e

Thank You all! I love the way the army looks on the table - this is probably the most fun part of the hobby - to actually see my paintings on the table.

black templars In battle

It's even more fantastic when playing in the club people come to the table complementing the minis, taking them up, looking up close, etc.

Anyhow, probably the next part to do should be the dread or agressors so I have some more long/mid range support on the table. I'm leaning towards the bolter agressors just for the range on the guns, but still undecided. So probably I should push out the dread as there I have no choice wit hthe ETB variant :P Still the mini bugs me - I think it's the static position that throws me off or the lack of detail on the feet. Does anybody have any good advice for reposing the ETB redemptor dread?

I normally only lurk in this part of the forum due to my proclivity towards Chaos, but your Templars are inspiring! I have started working on a Templar force now for a friend and I will be looking into your thread for inspiration. I am already working on a similar conversation for the Emperor's Champion using the Stormcast model.

Very nice style that you have created for these guys, I think you've captured a medieval feel to them which is great. Although I normally do not like the relic banner model I think yours looks fantastic, the regular banner is an excellent addition to the model.

This big chungus was starting to get on my nerve a little bit. Having him in parts on my desk was starting to seriously bug me so despite not having a lot of time for the hobby I've managed to power through. I was very undecided on both the pose and the ammount of conversions and bling I should bring to him, but after a lot of thinkin I think I've reached a good point that fits the hole army - just a little here and there.

What I'm most happy is that with just a very small adjustment of his body joint I was able to turn the "look-at-me-I'm-so-dull" pose into something more dramatic with little to no effor.

Now to power through with the painting will be another story...

  • 1 year later...

So here I was thinking "OH I should update my B&C thread with the progress on the army. I wonder how many weeks behind I'm on updates there" aaaaaaaaand it was actually 16 MONTHS since the last update. Hell last time I actually posted something here the new BT supplement was not even released. So long story short since 40k play was not very hot since my last updates I focused more on Kill Team since it's way faster to play and easier to find time for. I've made another KT for the previous version of the system only to be sidelined when the new edition hit late 2021. Since then it was just... well... more Kill Team since it's a fantastic system. Probably the best game that GW has released since I cared to read any of the rules lol. Then it turns out that making fully converted and nicely painted kill teams actually takes a butt ton of time... not to mention everything happening in the world at the moment and me moving house somewhere in between.

Anyway since as we know 40k is a hot mess in terms of power creep and all of that I was not really keen on getting my bottoms mopped each time I tried to field my army. The new rules that I had to learn also didn't help since I constantly forget all of the small rules my army has (this get's to reroll this, that get's to reroll that, etc.) so even though I was excited to play the new rules I only played I think 2 matches before summer of 2022  and just lately played one more. Still since I managed to get some less turbo-competetive opponents I was not tabled turn 1 and was able to either squeeze a win or at least get a close defeat which is fine in my book.

I absolutely H A T E the approach of GW balancing with AoC, where we just constantly buff everything to oblivion. Still this change enabled me to actually play and be able to save some of my units past turn 1 shooting. Those few positive game interactions finally made me jump back and work more on the army.

So in the last 16 months I've managed to finish painting the dreadnought (still done in 2021). Then I wen't on with the Agressors. Assembled the first 3 minis which I then expanded to a 5 man squad that is quite tanky, provides some nice pew pew firepower for the chaff stuff and with the AoC update is quite durable. After that I decided to jump in on the Vanguard Veterans bandwagon and lately finished a small 5 man group to add to the army. Pics can be found below:

Then comes the big part. Since my army is now missing out big time on some of the stuff from the new edition of BT releases I think it's time for a major update of the army. I already had the starter set bought somewhere early 2022 without the drednought and EC for dirt cheap and now I bought of another one missing the EC nad the book which I don't need second copies of anyway. I was also buying some regular intercessor stuff for my Kill Team that I have leftovers. I still have more Indomitus BG's, Eradicators, Outriders and assault intercessors to use. Plus on top of that I've also got some VERY nice Kromlech bits for BT's and some Dark Angels robbed bodies that also fit perfectly with the estetic. I also decided to buy the new Helbrecht model, since my local shop had a massive -25% sale.

So...

THAT'S A LOT OF BODIES!

The plan is now to first re-do the Assault intercessors into Crusader squads which will be far more durable, will pack a nasty punch and be much more fully. I have two CC squads in mind. At the moment I'm assembling the Neophytes. Of course they look terrible out of the box, so kitbashing is a necessity. Head swap is a must and I have a great solution for it thanks to my shops bitsbox. I was also thinking on modelling some chainmail to hide their exposed arms but I sucked at it so I decided to just gently shave of the exposed veins on the muscles and paint the arm's a in a dark grey color to indicate that this is some kind of under suit. They will look SO MUCH BETTER then the macho-out-of-the-box look they now have. Then I just need to make 4 power fist Initiates and 2 sword brethrean and with the already completed assault intercessors I have enough to field two 10 man squads of crusaders or 1 squad of 20.

Next I would probably prefer to add maybe 1-2 BG's and na Eradicator with a Multi Melta. After that it's either the plasma Redemptor or Helbrecht. I also need to find some time to assemble two squads of normal intercessors since I LOVE the look of a generic BT marine. Plus I need some cheep and small squads to hold objectives in the back. They will also double as a Kill Team since GW was kind enough to provide rules for them finally.

OH and I forgot I've already ktibashed a Chappy ona a bike which I need to paint.

So much work to be done...
