Big progress this weekend! Spent all day on Sunday (All of my free time anyway, so about 3 hours) on the banner;

Then on Easter Monday I did the faces and some varnishing, which got me here;

And with that, the 'troops' of the army are done, just 2 characters to do now (until I want a chaplain... I already know I want a chaplain).

Couldn't resist lining them all up on my desk for a 'full' army shot;

Librarian finished today, the blue looked LOADS better before I put the matt varnish on, but it looks good at arms length so it'll do for the tabletop.

One more miniature to go! (then 40 bases :unsure.: )

So close to finished, pigment powders on the bases and lower legs to do and then it's just painting the base rims black. Another 2 hours and I'll be done!

busy weekend for me, bases are done and so is the WHOLE FLIPPING ARMY! I don't think I have ever been so proud of a painting project ever, even my golden demon stuff hasn't given me the same sense of accomplishment that finishing these has done.

Brace yourself, spam is coming.

Bad photo of the whole army, as you can probably see my black backdrop is an old tshirt. One day I might invest in something a bit better, maybe not.

My favourite model in the army:

Kudos man, great army. I love the particular shade of bone you’ve got going for your army. My favourite part of the whole army is the bare heads. The skin tones are extremely realistic, and the faces have loads of character. I love that you’ve painted the skin tones to represent Space Marines from various racial/ethnic backgrounds, and feel that that is especially fluffy and true to form for armies like the Dark Angels and Black Templars who typically recruit from many different planets. Kudos.

my favorite part is how you made the dw sergeants look unique (the swords are a big way to do that)

good stuff.. i keep checking back and looking at the pics

Thanks dude, the swords was a big thing for me, spent a lot of time looking around to find different ones.  Ended up having to design and 3d print one of my own in the end!  Other 3 are from various dark angel kits.

Thanks dude, I'm glad someone noticed the varying skin tones.  I don't subscribe to the 'All Astartes are white chads' nonsense, nor the idea that there will be mono-ethnicity worlds in the 41st millennium.  Also it's fun to learn to paint different colours.

I agree that the “All Astarte are white chads” is utter nonsense also, and when I get the confidence to try bare heads instead only using helmeted heads, I plan on trying out varying skin tones also.

No time like the present, painting faces takes a bit of practice but you'll never get better at it until you do the practice

  • 1 year later...

So I added to the army, I needed a chaplain (turns out, interrogator chaplains are actually really good) then I needed some plasma cannons, then I needed some contemptor dreadnoughts... so here we are!  I got given a set of the dark vengeance terminators by a friend, the sergeant from that box is way too fancy to be a sergeant in my army, so he's a strikemaster now.
