Capital Idea!

What about Combi-weapons for cheap firepower and some utility?  Thoughts?

Yes, a combi-plas or combi-melta or two (or one of each or whatever) would not be an awful idea. I have long wanted to use a meltagun in-game in Deathwatch or Black Crusade, but I always find myself going back to good old, reliable (haha) plasma (3rd degree burns sold separately) for flexibility, armor pen and range. Maybe one of these days I'll just man up and go for it (melta, that is).

Edit: One thing I'm unsure of with regard to using combi-weapons in Deathwatch: when you acquire a combi-weapon, does the combi-part come with multiple reloads, or is it written somewhere that you only get 1x plasma or melta or flame shot per adventure or requisition event?

They're probably only one use per adventure.

Unless you're a Techmarine, of course.

Not wanting to put words into the GM's mouth, but the special weapon part of the combi-weapon functions exactly like the standard special weapon, but only has Magazine/Clip: 1, so for the Plasma gun, you couldn't Semi-Auto 2, but you can fire 1 shot on Maximal. Derp! ;p

You should have availability of as many reloads as you do the bolter, as the Combi-bolter itself should come with sufficient supplies of ammunition (unless the GM rules otherwise, or specifies Rule of Three).

They're probably only one use per adventure.

You can reload them.  Just takes a while.

No worries.

EDIT: Actually scratch that on Maximal combi-plasma, you can't do it as it uses 4 shots, and the combi-plasma clip is only 1.  D'oh! :tongue.:

So the best bets are Combi-melta, Combi-flamer or Combi-Grenade Launcher.

Yep, I think to keep it simple I said stick to the DW standard, standard ammo clips are infinite but still need to be reloaded when each clip is emptied. Exception is SIA where each clip needs to be purchased.

Although, now having read through the BC Rule of 3 thing, part of me wishes I'd gone that way as it might be kind of fun to have to watch your bursts!

Anyway, leaving it as it is, too late to change it now! :D

Across in Headhunted (Tro will attest to this) they had to buy almost every magazine, grenade, everything.

It made for some exceptional strategic and magical thinking by (and at the request of!) the players - and the Rule of Three was lurking in the DW Core book long before those filthy traitors had it Lysi.

@ Necro: Ork ASMR is best ASMR.

@ MG: I have the same foible there.

@Mazer, I have been entertaining a similar thought with regard to reining in wanton ammunition consumption for Black Crusade, going above and beyond the rule of 3. But that's for another OOC thread.

Also I recently programmed the Dakka ASMR into the white noise generator for my kids -- they've been sleeping like babies... And assembling cobbled-together firearms from the furniture and random toys. I think I'm doing this right?

Dad of the Year material there bud.

Indeed, and I still keep track of every round of ammo and grenade. I feel it is something a Marine would just instinctively know.

I even made a ammo tracker for Sakal and his plasma gun for when that gets going.

And we have been doing that in Plunder with Grenades and Bolt Rounds for Pistols. Draak's backpack runs out after 41.6r firings but we haven't (Yet) had that much combat.

It was only the GM that forgot how many Krak Grenades that we had and had used, who had thought we'd run dry when we still had lots left.

Pending Gm Fiat

Diagnosticator Helmet - 15

Arm mounting -10

Hand flamer -10

Now this does need Lysimachus' approval, because RAW only weapons in the Las, Solid Projectile, Bolt, Melta Pistol or Auiliary Grenade Launcher categaroies can be used with the arm mounting upgrade.

Arm Mounting a weapon reduces range by 30% so your Hand Flamer would only have a 7m Range. Also Arm-Mountings are Distinguished Renown.

I've always found a clip of hellfire to be handy for heavy bolters. One round expended per attack (particularly useful with a source of the accurate trait).

I'm pretty sure Draak has tech-use covered for us in Xin's/Redcloak's absence, but does anyone possess the Security skill? A multi-key would be pretty handy for navigating an Imperial ship, methinks.

Might be a job for Mr Holger....
