Ork Updates & New Models - 9th Edition Discussion

Recommended Posts

For me, the only real question is, can you replace the head of a stompa by a Boss Bunka ?

A Stompa is the smallest of the Ork Gargants in the lore, but the biggest we've gotten a model of. The larger ones should be the same size as the Imperial Warlord Titan. Which is what the Boos Bunka is representing the head of. Doubt we will ever get a model that size, though would be cool if they eventually add them to the Titanicus game.

Having just finished a unit of them, I’m glad to see that Nobs haven’t lost the double-choppy option.

I am disappointed that nobz bikers aren’t in the codex anymore. Not keen on shelling out for the FW book for one unit :(

Nob bikers have always been a Forgeworld kit though, so it's not surprising. Hopefully they don't get shifted to full on legend status like the warboss. The improvements to Warbikers make them a lot more viable this edition though.

Does anyone have any ideas about the squigrider nob being a separate unit? It’s very unusual as the only single nob model in the book is the waaagh banner bearer and no other unit leaders come separately. The only reason I can think of is that the kit is 6 models (3 boys, the nob and 2 minions) and so this was how they allow you to have a unit of 6 boyz and not have a nob leftover.

Yeah, I think I'll be running Warbikers and Deff Koptas in a speed Waaagh!!! this edition at some point. I think Buggies are in an okay spot as well. They nerfed the Kustom Jobs, but the units themselves got a boost with the new Ramshackle Rule, and the Squiq Buggy overall got buffed with the change to the Squig Launchas, though the squig mine is still a little under whelming. Scrapjets and Dragstas both still look pretty good, and while not amazing, both of the other two buggies have a little more survivability this edition. I don't think its a competitive list, but I might run 1 of each so I can buff them with some kustom jobs, and see what they can do in a casual game.

The nob on smasha squig kit is integrated into the Squighog boys so will be NOT be a separate kit.

Consequently if you want a unit of 6 Squighogs you'd need two boxes. Buying two means two nobs on smasha squigs which don't take up any FoC slots. I think this is why you can take one unit of Squighogs that allows you to take two smashas.

I ran the squigbuggy yesterday in a game, and I can tell you that between the mine, the Waaagh!, and +1S for being Goffs it tore down a hellhound in melee. The mine is situational, sure, but it was clutch for pulling off a couple of wounds.

That is really good to hear. In general I feel like this codex really upgraded most of the buggies. I get the issue people have with how Kustom Jobs work now, but individually I feel like all the buggies were improved.

What’s the recipe for beast snagga scheme on the box?

There's a YouTube video by warhammer tv for it? I think.

I'm working it out atm, at least my version I'll post my recipe soon

Vince Venturella recently posted a Youtube video scheme based off of Vallejo Olive, brightened up with Yellow Ochre and Ice Yellow. I used it on one of my Stormboyz and I think it's definitely in the ballpark:

Nice work! Got my box of Beast snaggas aswell.

But I really wanted to make some warbikers, I noticed the Nobs on bikes option is gone from the codex. (I know they are in the Forgeworld book).

I have 11-12 bikes at my disposal and Im now pondering if I should convert a couple to Nobs on bikes or not. What do you guys think, is it worth it?

I think with the change to warbikers in the new codex they may actually be the better option now. they got cheaper, harder to hit, and a more reliable high output of ranged shots. They max unit size did drop to 9 though. So if you have 12 of them, I'd convert two of them to Nobs and you have yourself to 6 man squads of bikes.

I just read that Battlescribe has update the Orks.

It does. They are listed as "Orks 2021", since we live in a bizarro-world where both codices are valid.

Sounds like a solid idea, thanks!
