Recent efforts with bases. I’m not mad keen on painting bases so previously commissioned a friend to paint them. The overall theme of the project is different platoons covering different areas of a world during an invasion so there is consistency in the basing across a few squads.

Like many expedition fleets, The 1929th contains several member of other legions on secondment, passing through or other missions whose tales deserve a remembrance.

Moritat Lieutenant Baelandron of the World Eaters has been with the 10th Millennial for some years. Originally sent on a short secondment I believe he found any reason to extend his stay with the IIIrd. He did not follow the fashion of self mutilation which seemed to grip our cousins in the World Eaters and he confided in me that he doesn’t recognise his legion any more.
When news came of the 12th’s betrayal Baelandron was not surprised. He secluded himself for a day and returned, clad in the raiment of the War Hounds.

Shortly after the Custodes arrived, Darius appeared as if from thin air. He held a long council with the expedition leadership. I know not what was discussed but there can be no doubt that he came directly from the Sigilite.
Speaking with members of the Thousand Sons contingent confirmed a few scant details. Veteran Sergeant Darius was a member of the “Pyrae”, that his colours are those of the original 15th legion and that he has a lethal reputation even within the warlocks of the Thousand Sons.

My current WIP. A bit of a command squad/palatine blades kit bashing passion project. Do folks reckon they need cloaks as well or is that too much (if I that can be such a thing with Emperors Children?)

I recently received a message about millennials, companies and general headcannnon and sources that I used to come up with this.

When coming up with the project. I reasoned that in 40k ideal codex astartes land, there are 10 companies to a chapter/millennial so approx 1000 marines. A legion has a lot more than that.

Early heresy lore (Betrayal black book) states 30 millennials in the Emperors Children legion with approx 90,000+ astartes.
I reasoned if they had 30 millennials there’d be about 3000 men per millennial led by a Lord Commander. Then x4 battalion’s per millennial of 750 each led by an Lt Commander. Finally I reasoned 150 approximately per company led by a Captain.

In my headcannon, the Emperor’s Children start with 10 companies per millennial (companies 91-100 for 10th Millennial) then expanded with a further 10 companies when the Emperor’s Children got bigger. Therefore 391st-400th companies.
Using the famous characters. Eidolon would be in charge of 1st Millenial and commanding 1st-10th companies I.e. Julius Kaserone, Solomon Demeter, Marius. Vairosean and Saul Tarvitz. Vespasian would be 2nd Millenial and in charge of Lucius. This fit enough for my own logic.

As i was writing this answer and reflecting on my headcannon I realised I got the numbering wrong and they should be 10th Millenial not 9th by this structure and logic… I’ve only had this project for 15 years and finally realised my mistake…..:cuss:!

Time to repaint a few minis and change a lot of posts.

The legion has a tradition of assimilating fighting styles and weaponry from the worlds which encounter and foes we defeat. The Praetorians, as befits veterans of the legion, will often employ these tools in a multitude of roles.

When not in terminator plate, they often act as a flying reserve with Lt Cdr McComber descending upon fiery wings.

Germanicus, Ourehouare, Green and Antilochus are documented elsewhere. During the last compliance action they led the Pratorians in storming the capital city templum and fought many summoned warp xenos.

Quispe is fastidious of appearance and large of weapon. Volkite gun blade and power fist have seen him through many a duel against enemy champions.

Dinesh the taciturn. Whilst a man of few words he is a skilled painter and expressive as an artist. He is frequently called upon aid in profiling the cultures which we encounter using their art.

A philosopher like Bonifatius is often seen with the expedition Iterators. His chainblade came from a defeated elder aspect warrior. He took the blade but spared the warrior stating he felt it unethical. The man is a mystery.

Francis is a direct and dogged war master. He will dissect an opponent like a scientist with a knife.

Ahuludegi favours the writings of the Albian duellist Jorg Argentum who advocated the quarter staff as superior in the duel. The man is a whirling blur with that power staff and i have yet to defeat him in the practice cages.

I confess I don’t understand Evaristo. I don’t doubt his skill with the ork “choppa” but i can’t bring myself to agree with his enthusiastic advocation of the weapon.

Such unorthodox thinking is clearly useful to the commander for he voice is valued at council.

When Nova Troy was besieged by the forces of Unity they offered up many of their youth as tribute. Hector was one such lad. Initially resentful, he eventually became swayed by the cause and became a herald which employed his gift for languages. Many of our number acted as such in those early days but unfortunately, Hector was felled alongside his iteratior colleagues on Tejat Prior.
Reenlistment has been hard on him and Hector struggles when out of combat  needing frequent cryostasis.

Next on my build tray. A plastic Fellblade!….conversion. Started this ages ago and the recent reveal has made it a bit moot but I shall persevere.

Looks nice.  As for decorations, the only thing that comes immediately to mind are the backpack icons from the new EC tormentors/infractors, which have flat backs and are shown in GW pictures used as vehicle decorations.  That and some what stripes on the turret or hull would add some nice contrast.
