I received my copy of the Wrath of the Soul Forge King yesterday so I quikcly got to work getting Big Bad Vashtorr together. A quick nit pick is that the box didn't come with the seperating art like pretty much every other has so far, it just came with this:

It's a shame, I have a collection from the boxes I've bought to date and I was very much looking forward to this one!

Anywho

It's such a rad model with suprisingly very few fiddly pieces and is actually only on one sprue "sheet". I of course had to make some alterations to Vashtorr (it's almost obsessive to tinker these days ). I have him a big showy base, he is the king of fixing and crumping vehicles and also raise the claw to give him a bit more movement. The model is so creepy

and they've really nailed the gangly blacksmith vibe

Onto painting next! I'm currently following a guide on how to paint Vampire skin as a pale, gaunt look should pop with the hazard stripes and also the yellow landraider on the base

We'll see how I go!

Reasonably slow progress but progress I'm very proud of. I've gotten the skin done and this big metal ghoul is really starting to come together!

Now to do everything else!

I’m proud of you TC. That flesh work is top notch. This is going to be a stellar project.

did you have to green stuff his armpit or was that a creative choice?

very interesting take on the base. I’m considering something similar.

finally, I just hit my box yesterday and believe it or not I eagerly sought out the art print and was really disappointed. Why alsayacjais with the short stick on these things? I share your disappointment and this box wasn’t cheap.

Last importantly, I love what progress you’ve made. Awesome.

Off to a solid start with Vashtor!

In love with Onionboy and the Defiler, the heat glow around the vents is a nice touch.

The biomechanical possessed are very fitting for the Iron Warriors, the drill chap has to be my favourite.

The flesh looks great - looking forward to seeing how you do the rest of the model.

Thank you Dr, the Flesh is the bit I'm most proud of although it makes taking photographs of the armour as whole bloody difficult

Thank you Prot, that's very kind

The armpit was greenstuffed to keep the angle I wanted, the kit has 0 posability as it comes which isn't a problem. I do love a good kitbash!

It's a shame that this was the first box to not have the art, it's so rad!

Cheers Pearson! Onionboy and the Defiler are some of my favourite models I've made. I'm glad other people like them too

Big bad Vashtorr, donezo:

I'm super proud of this guys and quite honestly is probably the best model I've ever painted. Now I need to see if all that effort was worth it in a game

Nice work on his eyes! I really like the blue/green highlights on the staff material too.

Cheers Pearson! I wasn't sure if I needed more spot colours but I think it adds a nice touch of colour. Apart from the Yellow and Reds, the model is pretty monochrome!

Echoing the other posters, your Vashtorr is wonderful. If you don't mind me asking, how do you get that really dark metal look on stuff like the wings and chest/loin plates?

Thank you Volgon! The metal is super easy, it's just: Leadbelcher Spray undercoat, slather Basilicanum Grey all over and then highlight with Leadbelcher. Done! I think it looks particularly dark because the white throws my camera's white balance off which was one of the reasons why I found it difficult to photograph
