The Warmaster's Finest - Sons of Horus

Soooo, here I go again. I'd been in something of a long-time Heresy rut, flitting between Legions and never being able to focus. I pretty much sold up and gave myself quite a while off Heresy, knowing I'd come back to it when it felt right. So, in doing so I sat down and had a proiper think about what I wanted to do. I was re-reading the books from the start and I forgot about how magical it all seemed at the start and how much I loved Horus, Loken, the Mournival and the path they eventually went down.
 
However, one thing that always out me off them as an army was never finding a colour I actually liked for them. Returning from my sabatical, lo and behold! What do I find but an actual Sons of Horus Green paint, and one I liked too! Then they released the gorgeous new Maloghurst mini too....it felt like the stars had aligned and my choice was made.
 
I've always gone for that gritty, weathered style of painting so grabbed a spare MK III Tactical marine and tested out the scheme. I was happy enough with the green, which I never usually am! Here's the tester I did below:

After that, I decided to do another quick tester, as occasionally I've been happy with the first one and then it's all gone horribly wrong and I've already bought an army ha. I tried the scheme out on a spare Tartaros Terminator I had lying around and was even happier with it, once I'd gotten the weathering down and the green just right. I've grabbed the Transfer sheet for the SoH so I'll finisah this chap off later. I'm now going to complete the remaining 4 members of the Terminator squad and then get onto a Tactical squad for them. Hopefully by that point some more of the Legion-specific units for Sons of Horus will be back in stock!

The Warmaster's finest indeed! I certainly commiserate with you, it literally took me years of testing and mixing to find a green I liked. Dark and dirty really suits the XVI, nicely done.

Lovely work on both minis. The chipping on the armour gives them a very battleworn look, very suitable for the Warmaster's legion.
