If it releases after, they might not be in the Codex proper, similar to how Sisters of Battle were.

And they do say on the WC that they might make a great addition to a Chaos Space Marines army. Sounds like they will be a WD article or something.

Nice. Looks like we got 10 Traitor Guard, plus Traitor Command. Hope they have their own 40k rules in a WD.

Clockworkchris.....any word on how these fit into the Codex stuff if at all?

They specifically said they would be good to run with your iron warriors or word bearers, so thats confirmed for 40k.

They also could be a Brood Brothers like rule, where we can just take an AM detachment with a Traitor regiment instead of Imperium

I hope they are integrated into the chaos book so they can get some chaos flavor

I really don't want to see any more cultists, or cultist type models. Yes, I know they are part of the lore, part of the background, but so many models are so old, there is way more to do here.

This is just me thinking here which is often not a good idea, but my fear is cultists and variants get some great rules, hence lots of cultist type releases and trying to plug dozens of these in every "CSM" army lists. (Look at the new Tzaangor build coming for Thousand Sons).

Regardless, I don't care if that becomes a build, I do want to see some wicked old models replaced. Even the Defiler has use in lists, but the giant washing machine with legs is just really begging for an upgrade, and I want to see a real dreadnought kit and some of the old characters touched up (Huron please and thank you!).

For rules, I'm still trying to figure out how this all blends together. We finally have some decent looking army wide rules (IE: "chapter tactics" and "super doctrines" and our beloved marks brought back).

I also keep thinking it's in their best interest to replace the Rhino. But anyway, I'm still wanting more power armour related stuff! I feel like very little of the reveals have been actual CSM and more kind of followers of chaos stuff, which is fine, but just compliments my personal theme of bitter marines. :)

The kits I want to get updated are:

Defiler: it is so hideous I don't even look at the rules because I am not running it

Bikers: they don't match the current baroque style marines that I love

Rhino-chasis: I want new kits that are more that just boxes with spikes. Add some trim, daemonic details and options

Land Raider: same adjustments I want for the rhino kit

the 9th ed book is bringing new Chosen, new Possessed, a new Warpsmith, some extra options for our still-very-new basic CSM kit, and that's just the stuff we've already seen.  New Huron and new Bikes are still potentially on the table.

8th edition brought new basic chaos marines, new havocs, new terminators, new power armored sorcerer, that executioner guy, new abaddon, the black legion named jump lord, and the master of possession.

The current plastic chaos dreadnought, raptors, warp talons, lieutenant, and apostle are a bit older, but they still hold up just fine imo, and are not in need of replacement any time soon.

Honestly, the only problem kit for marine type units right now is bikes, and those are still rumored to be on their way.  Apart from being annoyed at the loss of options on the independent characters (absolutely fair enough, I'm also annoyed at that), where are complaints of not enough support for basic chaos marine units coming from?

Basic marine armored chaos dudes aren't a neglected theme at all.  If anything, after the 8th edition wave of exactly those sorts of kits we were due for a more dedicated push of weird new lost and the damned style stuff.  Again, I'd have preferred to see a full renegades & heretics codex bringing back Rogue Trader and Blackstone Fortress kits and borrowing guard vehicles via a new chaos vehicle accessory sprue, but I'm not at all going to complain about what we are seeing here.

Defiler would be nice, and I could see that happening some day.  I wouldn't say it needed a new kit any more than cultists do though, and daemon engines in general as a theme have seen a lot of model kit support in recent releases.

Bikes are still present in the overwhelmingly confirmed rumor pile.  If we don't see them with the codex, I doubt we'll have to wait a full edition for them to show up.

Rhino's a nice idea, but it's not happening.  Same with land raider.  You're talking about over a dozed plastic kits that still sell well, based on core chasis that still hold up fine.  Better off hoping for an entirely new transport vehicle, like the primaris have been getting, but even then I've been praying for a proper assault oriented transport for decades and it's just not coming.  Try bothering Subtle Discord about when they might be restocking vehicle trim.

The Defiler, to me, desperately needs a new kit more than anything I currently have anyway. But I notice GW does tilt towards giving us a new unit so it's harder to proxy an older one, and that made me think that while I agree the Rhino won't get replaced... this would be the ultimate time for a Chaos Drop Pod. I know it's something we'll never see (just like a proper assault vehicle) but it's been on my wish list for years. (I refuse to buy the FW pod).

Strong rumours surrounding bikes are good.... I just keep imagining a new Huron though and the potential is amazing for him and his little buddy (if he still exists)!

Given that World Eaters are confirmed not in the book and coming later this year in their own book, anyone else think it is possible they will announce Angron soon as a model usable in both 30k and in 40k (considering he ascended during the heresy)? Hell, we might even see him tomorrow.

I suspect a new Huron is pretty much a given with the rumour engine pic of his claw; question is just whether he's coming with the codex, or later on as part of some other event.

Hrm... probably.

Also possible: new World Eaters.

Now that it's official, time to get in the habit of considering all options.

Clockworkchris, any info you can share beyond what you have already about how/if the new traitor guard kill team slots into the CSM dex?  E.g., are they just autogun cultists or a different entry, can they take special weapons, are the commissar and ogryn included in the book?

Apologies if this was already discussed.  I've tried to keep current with this thread, but might have missed it (and didn't catch the stream today).

All they need to do really is bring back the assault ramp rule for landraiders, drop them by about 50pts or give chaos access to the other variants like the redeemer/crusader. If they did that, I'd totally get some. Right now, I just can't justify buying one for my Alpha boys.

I'd love a new Defiler with looks along the lines of the Fiends and Venomcrawlers.

Yes, I could definitely get behind that idea!

As Brood Brother-esque rules, they would still get some chaos flavor, and it would allow us to include artillery and the like from the AM codex

So, I wanted to see what the Slaanesh variant would look like so I photoshop him.

I like him a lot for me easily the best part of this release by a country mile. If your taking multiples though your going to have a hard time breaking that pose to make them not look the same.

The head looks cool, though I'll saw off the horns and add the tentacled "hair" from the Tzeentch head, that will look soooo a certain type of anime that fits Slaanesh very well. This being said, I do have a rather big gripe: no proper astartes power boots. Looks like we are stuck with either chicken feet or goat hoover. Meh.

He's not entirely covered by armor like the Diaz model. If you go back to the WarCom article with the pictures, you can see that there's no backplate to his plastron -- the wings or power pack emerge from his bare skin. So there's a thematic argument against armored boots & greaves there.

I would have preferred the option, but this is what we get.

Man, I am so over waiting for this new codex! there was a release month on stream for the Horus Heresy gear, but still nothing for the CSM codex. The model previews were awesome, but it's still just another tease!
