How are you playing a full game with the rumours? Loads hasn’t been fleshed out such as warlord traits and relics. Not to mention all the strats.

Because i have about 95 of the complete ruleset apart from the points and some generic relics lol

Also if you wanna playtest just kneecap your army by 15%.

So are you just estimating points costs then? I don't really see how that can work?

lol its not that much of a stretch, look at point costs in TS and DG, those are clearly the new point costs for daemon engines and helbrute and chaos spawns and cultists. anything else is a 15% increase. I know this because I have been submitting my 1700 point list to my source and has been telling me how much it is worth in his playtest copy, and i am more or less 20 points right on the money.

See it this way, its better then not playing at all.

Tyranids are famously busted. 1/3 of the top 5 placings at 20+ person tournaments this past weekend were Tyranids. I'm sure CSM will get rolled by them and Eldar since GW would never release a Chaos codex that is a top dog. I just hope CSM is good enough that they can compete at the top after August chapter approved points nerf Tyranids and Eldar.

I can't imagine this holds true for things like possessed and chosen who are bound to go up more than a couple points. Same may also go for warp talons and legionnaires. The latter is 12ppm right now, and even if they are a generous 18ppm, that is still a 50% increase. Chosen are likely going to almost double in points.

15% sounds like an army-wide average change where characters, vehicles, spawn, etc. are unlikely to change (or might even go down a few points). But if one leans more heavily into infantry, there is very likely going to be a >15% increase. Otherwise 3w chosen at 16ppm and 3w 9" move possessed at 23ppm are going to be busted.

Edit: my point is that if one brings a lot of possessed, chosen, and legionnaires then it seems likely their list will increase by more than 15%.

Yeh I mean Abaddon alone is supposedly going up 120pts. That's a 60% increase. Possessed I'd imagine are getting something similar.

Don't get me wrong, it's fun to try out some of the combinations but without accurate points it's almost impossible to gauge actual power level.

Look how often a unit gets a points increase or decrease of a few points and it completely changes it's competitive viability. PBCs *dropped* about 10% and it made them less competitive lol.

Thing is, even if we did know the points costs in the new Codex, it wouldn't surprise me if we find ourselves in a place where, like the Custodes book, the points in the CSM book are gonna be immediately invalidated by the chapter approved points updates...
I’ve been playing a fair amount with 8th edition Black Legion atm. I’ve played 5 games, won 1 against custodes, all but tabling him, tabled blood angels and orks by the end of turn 3. The two I lost I lost by 10pts to Eldar and Custodes. We don’t need many tweaks to be competing at the top level and it’s been far more enjoyable than playing with my dark angels where I hadn’t dropped a game in my local shop in a long time.

I also play Dark Angels and Chaos and I really do prefer chaos at the moment, I picked up chaos about a year and a half ago. I've been playing for decades and I have never had as much fun in a game as I do with my Alpha Legion and I win fairly consistantly with them as well.

The problem with the 8th codex is that you don’t really play chaos space marines you play demon engines and cultists and that’s a big shame.

Oh and Chris, is there any news on the anointed and shrivelton making an appearance in the codex or are they kill team exclusive?

man where did you hear that? Thats aweful if true. Yeah he got a huge buff, but thats a huge point sink on top of everything else going up in points.

On a separate note, is it safe to assume forgeworld stuff will remain the same cost / data sheets or will those be updated in the codex too you think?

Oh that sucks I got two boxes. I wonder how that will work if the legionary upgrade spru ends up in the legionary box as it will go against their if it’s in the box you can take it rules. Edited by Prophet of the Despoiler

The other question: is he still an HQ or now a Lord of War?

Competitive viability would depend on the answer to that question.

I suspect supreme commander because Ghazgul is one

EDIT: I was under the impression Guilliman was also considered a Supreme Commander. This is what I get for listening to my friend that plays Ultramarines. It would make sense for Abbadon to be a Supreme Commander

I don't think lords look very noteworthy in the rules so far.

Hopefully reworked weapon relics that don’t inflict needless penalties.

Daemon weapons that don't just randomly bite me would be nice, please and thank you GW. Bite me for failing to do stuff, sure, but just for rolling a 1? That's just irritating.

Daemon weapons have less chance of biting you now
