I don't think lords look very noteworthy in the rules so far.

Hopefully reworked weapon relics that don’t inflict needless penalties.

Daemon weapons that don't just randomly bite me would be nice, please and thank you GW. Bite me for failing to do stuff, sure, but just for rolling a 1? That's just irritating.
Daemon weapons have less chance of biting you now
Best news I've heard all day.

Sad news for the Chaos Lord from my Crusade force, who was interred in a Helbrute after failing his Daemon Weapon roll about 15 times too many.

I suspect supreme commander because Ghazgul is one

EDIT: I was under the impression Guilliman was also considered a Supreme Commander. This is what I get for listening to my friend that plays Ultramarines. It would make sense for Abbadon to be a Supreme Commander

Watch this space my dude, with the latest lore shenannigans about Bobby G, I'd say we're gonna see a new statline with 2.0

Losing jumppacks and not having daemonic mounts means they will be like deathguard lords - slow, footslogging beatsticks that might get into 1 combat during the whole game. Sadly not competitive.

That isn't not competitive, that isn't relevant. HQ spots are a premium and a walking lord just isn't something to care about unless he can do something like advance and charge. Deepstriking terminator lords can come with warp talons but while warp talons may be reasonably killy they aren't durable and now he is alone without bodyguards.

Assuming the rumors are accurate, something important is being lost.

Chaos Lords were a very versatile HQ capable of doing things the rest of the army could not.

In 8th edition, I was running a Black Legion Chainlord. For those who don't know, a Chainlord had a jump pack, artefact and a WLT allowing him to do mortal wounds. Superb character hunter, he'd often find use taking out snipers and enemy HQs.

Before the Vigilus books came out, I used a dual Lightning Claw JP Lord. He'd drop in turn 2 and just hit the weak point in my opponent's forces. He could clear chaff, take objectives, or just lock something up in combat.

Each of these Lords had an important role in my army: compensating for imbalances with other armies. If my opponent brought Vindicares, I could reliably take one out. If my opponent was fielding mortars and firing indirectly, I had an answer. And it was comparatively inexpensive. If I had to dedicate an expensive unit like Terminators / Raptors / Obliterators to the same task, it would result in overkill.

Looking forward to the Codex overall, but this rumor stings.

A multi part chaos lord kit would solve so many issues.

And seems like a no brainer for a kit to produce with a new codex, but it seems they have other ideas for which kits to push. Hoping daemon prince is better than it used to be - which was impressive unless it was dedicated to Khorne.

Hi everyone! long time lurker, first time posting.

Speaking of daemon princes... what dou you guys think will be the magical powers substitute thingie for khornate daemon princes? Do you think it will be something like the AOS khorne DP got?

This is my worry as well, and a big part of why a more reliable delivery system for melee units + heroes, transport or otherwise, has been my top request for ages.  You can maybe do something with terminator lords deep striking into aura support and assault range, but at the moment I fear most of our heroes are going to be left on the shelf.  At least there's always winged princes and disco lords, & maybe the new cultist command will be worth something.

Daemon princes are getting a big glow up

Nice! I always felt that D princes weren't as scary as they should!

That bike box cuts really deep. That kit is so terribad it’s handicapping to the fast attack slot.

This is why I wish more time was given to existing models in need of a glow up than creating a whole new dwarf army…

14" 5T 3W 3A is not outright bad. Good stats for an early objective capper who can cross the table before enemy infantry can advance to the spot.

Would need to see the points before writing them off.

I think most people's issue is that the kit is from 3rd edition.

If they keep the same rules as they have now for arming, those 3 attacks and the additional wound is exactly what was needed to fill the gap in their usefulness in my opinion. Bikers were already a good choice and super useful, with two special weapons in a squad and a CC weapon on each bike, they were already superior to their loyalist cousins. Costing will be interesting though. I'm hoping they're not Outrider prices, given they'll only have 3 wounds.
