How will you use the new Fafnir Rann model?

Given that I'm in the middle of building a VIIth Legion Zone Mortalis force, this release couldn't come at a better time: I'll be using Fafnir Rann as is.

 

Now I'm curious to know how you will use your Fafnir Rann model (should you get one)? Will you:

• Use it as is for your Imperial Fists Legion force?
• Convert the model to use in another Legion as a character?
• Use it in your Imperial Fists Chapter force as a captain/other character?
• Use/convert the model for a Chapter force that is from Dorn's lineage?
• Use/convert the model for another power armoured force as a character?
• Or something else entirely?

I am probably going to buy at least 2.

 

One will be build as is, maybe with a scenic base as a display miniature and the second one will be probably converted for gaming purposes in my 7th Legion force.

 

i dont like the axes on the pictures, they look orky big and will be replaced, depending after i have the models in hand.

Definitely going to get one, with some modifications he's going to be leading an all-Firstborn company of my Homebrew Chapter which would also be able to pull double duty as a Heresy Blackshields force (hypothetically).

What replacement axe heads do you have in mind? The ones from the FW Mk IV power weapon set could work quite nicely if you have them handy.

I really love this model! Ideally I will get one to paint as a purely painting project and one to convert. The painting project will either be bog standard yellow Rann or paint him up in Executioners heraldry and push the timeline forward a bit!

 

I have a few options for my 5th company captain at the moment so I may need to repaint some shoulderpad trim to add some variation, and then add is a Fafnir clone as my new captain. My old first born captain had a mighty beard and 'tache so depending on how he shapes up size-wise Rann can be a primaris version ;)

 

Weapon loadouts are a little limiting so I may have to introduce some 'counts as' elements.

I'll probably pick up two. I don't play IF, but I'll do one as a display, and the second is going to be turned into a Space Wolf praetor, because the existing model for that is really bad.

I know a Space Wolf player who was legitimately jealous of how manly and cool this guy looks. If I get one, he is getting a Death watch conversion to be a Watch Captain. Maybe a Blackshield captain?

The axes will find a new use in my World Eaters force, the Fist parts go to my Iron Warriors as trophies or base decoration, and the rest gets to take a dive in my bits box and emerge as new HQ for whichever of my legions needs it most. Probably an Iron Warrior, because neither FW nor GW wants to give them special character models.

Long time 30k and 40k Salamander collector here. I've long thought about adding a few Executioners - great colour scheme, cool Badab War story, and nice lore hook with Salamanders vouching for them after the conflict - and Fafnir's awesome model is the perfect kick start. Bet he'll look good in their gunmetal scheme

I would like two.

One to paint as-is - I don't collect IF but I think he's a cool sculpt, and that's good enough for me!

The second would lose his iconography (and probably his shield), maybe get an axe swap and possibly join a DA successor as an officer wearing relic plate. That one would get painted purple so it would clearly be the better of the two.

I'm picking him up and converting him into a World Eater. Probably going to do post heresy colors (though the new siege of Terra book has them in red and brass) so it looks like it was pillaged in a later raid. Little bit of filing and a headswap looks like is all that's required.

Will paint him up as an Executioner to go with my Sigismund as Black Templar.  I may use a second one as the basis for my home brew Chapter Master.

I don't know for certain what I'll do with him, but I have an idea for an Exorcists conversion, replacing the axe in one hand with a bloodied sword (because I like swords) and the axe in the other hand with a severed daemon head. I would give him a helmet, naturally, and remove any Imperial Fists iconography, replacing it with suitable Exorcists iconography. He would keep the shield.

If I get a second, he'll remain Fafnir Rann in all of his glory. If I get a third, he'll be Fafnir Rann in Executioners colors.

Quick query for the Fafnir Rann model please - are his shoulder pads larger than the plastic MkIII kit versions?  Would they look Ok, or is it better to use his original pads and take off the IF symbol for us with other chapters.
