Jolemai
Welcome to part two of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series! Following the release of the 9th edition Supplement, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still), and part four will discuss the Legends units that we still own and love. Finally, part five will be dedicated to the reinforcements from Forge World. Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed. Without further ado, here's this week's entry: Fellblade Fellblade, gav1892 What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use your Fellblade? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? What else would affect your list(s) with this unit? Will you be running multiples? How are you buffing this unit? Will it babysit anything? What Wargear Options do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices? Stratagem synergy or note? Jolemai
No one used a Fellblade this edition yet? Or no thoughts on how they'd play one? Maybe a small battalion with a Master of the Forge, perhaps some Predators or Dreadnoughts too? Enough mobility in the Infantry for Objectives, etc? Cleon
I love the look of the Fellblade, I really do and if I ever get round to focussing on a HH force I will probably pick one up as a reward to myself for getting that force done. However in current 40k it doesn't seem appealing as it has all the issues of the predator annihilator turned up to 11. I think the only way I'd use it in 40k at the moment is in an oversized narrative game, where it would be facing off against one of the opposing sides centrepieces. BloodyB
My Fellblade is covered in dust right now, disuse due to poor rules. The main gun is very lacking: 2d6 shots at damage 2 or 2 shots at damage 6 as the majority of your shooting is very disappointing on a model this expensive. Combined with a relatively low survivability and it is just a let down. If you absolutely have to use one, take plenty of extra tank killing fire to mop up everything this thing shoots at. At the least, it looks good on the field, even better with a squadron of Predators for escort duties. I know I usually leave a small essay filled with amateurish prose for every model, but the state of the Fellblade makes me sad.
