NKirkham24
I was creating a list using the army of renown rules and while doing so, saw the potential to upgrade a sergeant to have a warlord trait. Initially I thought adding something like Imperium’s Sword to a sergeant gives a squad a good chance to make a charge with the +1 and a reroll. Checking the FAQs, it states the warlord trait only effects the sergeant, not the squad. I’m not sure how the rules would work in this scenario. Do you roll twice to charge unit, one for the sergeant alone? As far as I know that’s unprecedented, rolling two charges for a unit. And what happen if he makes it but the squad doesn’t? Coherency kicks in? Once he’s in combat, does the pile-in/consolidate only effect him? It’s an odd interaction, which has probably been FAQ’d somewhere that I haven’t seen, but wanted to get your steer on it. BloodyB
Personally, I would allow that trait to affect the squad. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373871-sergeant-%E2%80%98warlord%E2%80%99-traits/#findComment-5816488 Share on other sites
MadEdric
I'd say the part that allows rerolls on charges be ignored. It only works for the Sgt, not the squad. Since you cannot reroll for one model of the squad, the ability is not of any use. Cleon
I have no idea how the re-roll should work, but in my mind the +1 is easy - assuming you roll a 7, then you make the charge if any member of the squad gets to engagement with 7" or the Sgt gets to engagement with 8", so the positioning of the Sgt in the squad matters. I would be inclined to agree purely because of how mixed kill teams work with different movement values using bikes and jump packs to stretch the squad but still remain In coherency. That said it going to be something that’s not 100% clear and the benefits are so negligible I would not take it as it would interrupt the game flow just to review and make the case for this rule which to be fair is as clear as mud at first glance. This is why I take the WL traits that don't affect an individual, but rather squads. An Indomitor killteam with either double obsec or with still able to shoot while doing an action are the 2 I usually go for.
