How does Kauyon interact with Overwatch?

Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone knows whether or not the exploding hits from Kauyon apply when firing Overwatch? The interaction seems a little wonky to me, especially in battle round 5. Thanks!

It says that if the unmodified hit roll scores a hit, then scores an additional hit. So it would still generate extra hits, but only on 6s. (Or 5s and 6s if you are affected by something that improves overwatch to 5+ and its round 4-5)

The language of the rule prevents any weirdness by clearly indicating that the initial hit must be successful for it to explode.
