The icon on the Dark Apostle is a nice touch, the finished MoP and EC look good! That new lord is really awesome, love your choice of weapon for the thunder hammer. Are you planning on keeping the World Eater symbol on his knee?

I agree that the apostle looks much nicer and identifiable with the icon (and his larger size compared to the squaddies also helps).  Also loving your Masters of Executions and Possession - the MoE is particularly ace.

 

Its probably too late now, but crozius made me think of him being a chaplain in his loyalist life - maybe doing some of his armor black to reflect that heritage, perhaps in a quartered pattern like I did for my noise marine dark appostle?

 

Oh, and you had mentioned maybe bringing some astral claw flavour into some of your minis - here's some of my own astral claws / proto red corsairs that I did for a Badab era event.  Given that mine are near the very beginning of that evolution where yours are at the very end, you will likely be doing something different, but maybe mine contain an idea or two that might be helpful.

I'm keeping the World Eaters symbol as it gives some visual interest and also because he's quite heavily SW themed, I think they could work well as a "Fangs of Fenris" type symbol. Most importantly, I'm lazy and don't want to try to GS some trim on

I was tempted to have the Dark Apostle in all black with Red shoulder pads (as he once was when he was in my Homebrew chapter colours):

However, I wanted to have nods to Loyalist models and sensibilites and not just straight up copies or have them basically the same. That's not to say that's a bad thing to go for either, it's definitely something people can pull off!

 

Love those Astral Claws! The red armour parts seeping in is a very cool idea! I've got 10 MK4 bodies from Tortuga bay that I'm going to make into Chosen for the Corsairs. MY idea is that they're 10 of Huron's most trusted underlings left over from the Claws that are usually Lords or Champions in their own right but Huron calls together when needed to act as his body guard. I just need to figure how to equip them!

Chosen seem like such a great unit to kitbash since the condensing of weapon profiles.

 

I'd definitely go with a paired accursed weapon guy that isn't lightning claws, an axe and sword kind of thing.

I'll be raiding my bits boxes very soon for some Chosen, the perks of having a very ecleptic army taste/hobby journey is that I've got all sorts of bits I can bastardise

 

This weekend was a tad too hot for me to get painting properly (30° in the UK is an absolute scorcher!) so instead I made some good progress on some kitbashing projects. I made a Lord Discordant that needs his Glaive tidying up:

I did get some work done on Friday evening and Sunday evening on the Lord and the pals for the Apostle:

 

Many fingers in many pies as per usual! My plan is to get a lot of bits done before my first games (Sunday coming) so I can test units out but also get the army in a place where I don't need to add anything desperately for a few months as I'll be participating in the Call to Arms. As I've got a good few Eldar, DE and GSC kits I'd like to get done and have my Pile of Potential completely polished off for them, although I may still find some time to squeeze in some Chaos vows too

Thank you dan! I would say Quantity is a Qaulity of it's own but some of the models I've done recently have been some fo my best

Thanks gaurdian! Currently, I have no idea what I'm going to do for the banner, especially as it's so crinkled!

Looking good, for the banner maybe the Tyrant's Claw kind of like they have the Eye of Horus on the original? They did it so the crinkles don't deform it too much, also for the little icon on top maybe just a Chaos Star?

Yeah, my thinking was to hand draw something rough with a dark pen (like a sharpie or jiffy) on a piece of paper, then crinkle it up in the same way as the flag - that would give yo a better idea of how the image would be affected by the various folds, and I think this particular effect is one that would be fairly easily replicated by paper (sometimes it can be tough to get paper to fold in a similar way to (simulated) cloth, but I suspect that would be less so in this case).

Great ideas, thanks guys! Crinkled paper in the rough shape of the flag to test out how it looks is a fantastic idea! I'll give this a go

When I saw the Levi Terminators I knew I wanted to nab some for the Corsairs. A captain sprung up on a Buy and Sell group for £10 so I snatched him up and got to work:

That termie is huge - definitely fitting a Lord.  I'll have to try something similar sometime - the current kit isn't bad, but doesn't really have nay kind of heroic stature, while you're guy looks like he's on his way to demon prince-hood (shop?).  While the greenstuff is pretty rough, I kind of like it like that - its kind of like the trim is developing organically.

 

The trophies on the raider are also great - what do you intend to do with the copper rods?  Trim it down, put a spikes on them, leave them as they are, or something else?  Is the guy with the missile launcher part of the tank or just some guy photobombing your pic?

Looking good! The termi lord is coming along great! Are you going to deface the treads on the LR in anyway? Also what chapter is the front ornament going to be from? I know you normally use IF, but was wondering since you have some many other marine trophies on the LR if you were going to do different chapters.

TC you blow me away with some of these conversions. That raptor dude conversion is really good.. you gotta paint him! 

 

I wish I had the time/ability to do this stuff. Really impressive work and the perfect chapter/legion to do it with!

The terminator lord is wonderful! They really knocked it out of the park with the terminator HQs from Leviathan. I've been musing on converting a terminator lord in my own WIP thread and your lord makes me want to go that route instead. Do you happen to know what the sword blade is from? I don't recognize it and it's really cool!

Thank you DR! Looking at this kit and comparing it to the Termie Lord makes me realise how worse for wear it is. It's a classic and has many amazing parts, it's just starting to show it's age compared to the rest of the Chaos range, let alone the new Loyalist stuff

 

The copper rods are going to stay as they are, my intention was for the taller spikes to be at the back and the shorter ones at the front so the Pintle gunner and the rocket launcher are still able to shoot without accidently blasting the spikes

The rocket launcher guy is a Count-As Havoc Launcher/Hunter Killer missile. In my head, he just climbs on top for a better view rather than being part of the crew

Cheers gaurdian! The treads were on my to-do list but I forgot to do them before spraying it so I'll be scratching the Aquilla off before I paint

The helmets are going to be from armies I collect or my mates collect I think. I have a couple of different Eldar factions, a mate has Black Legion, I have Iron Warriors, another mate has Dark Angels, Imperial Fists and then I have one helmet I'll probably make Ultramarines just to make it pop a bit!

I've got a "batch" of Red Corsairs I'd like to paint for the Call to Arms once I've gotten through my Eldar Vow. I'd hopefully include:

Landraider

Termie Lord

Helbrute

Raptor Lord (Count-As Harken)

A couple of bikers to bring me up to 12 Bikes

A Biker Lord I'm very slowly converting

Maybe some Legionaires too, if I can squeeeze them in!

 

I have a plan for Armies on Parade this year that will involve both my Eldar and my Red Corsairs which I think should be pretty cool

Cheers Volgun! The sword is from the AoS Slaves to Darkness Ogroid Theridons, it's such a great kit for a whole load of different bits! I of course had to up the size of the sword

 

The Landraider is fully done, just needs to scratch the aquilla on the tracks, clean up the Aquilla on the front door panel and we're good to go!

 

As I mentioned, I've got a plan to paint all these as a Call to Arms vow, I just need to get the Eldar Vow done. Admittedly, there's quite a lot to paint but I should be getting through it soon

Might I recommend that you find something to put on the tips - with bare metal, there's a reasonable chance that they would scratch up any models that might come near, be that in a case, dropped on top, or posed there temporarily. It might be not worth it, but it might also save a paintjob at some point

There's no idea thieving in this hobby, just taking inspiration from!

 

Something for the tips of the spikes might be a good idea in that case, I also jag my hands enough as it is on the normal Chaos spikes!

I've been trying to think of a way of making a/some Forgefiends that are visually pretty obviously Forgefiends but also not using the FF models. I love the FF model but my ideal for this army is that most models feel or look like they'd be fast enough to keep up with the Outriders and the Hounds of Huron. As the Fiends are very front heavy, they look like they'd be deadly over short distances but not a far-ranging vehicle.

 

I recently spotted someone do an Armiger conversion, there they but the hip joins in the arm sockets with the autocannon on the top panel and thought it was almost exactly what I was after (althought I now can't find it and can't credit the idea I've used)

 

It's still got some bits I need to finish like the arm-tendril-things need the connection points tidying and I need to sort the neck connection point too but otherwise I think this came out great. It fits the long-distance gun beast vibe I was going for and almost looks quite buggy or roadrunner. With the cork and the base size, it's silhouette is very similar to the Forgefiend so I'm not modelling for advantage

 

 

I also got a game in with the Corsairs on Sunday too! Me and my mate's Black Legion+"requisitioned" Iron Warriors tanks took on 2k points of Aeldari and had an absolute blast!

This was such a great game and a fantastic 1st game using th Chaos marines in 10th ed! It's good to put all the theory in practice and seeing how the army plays

The standout moments were:

The Landraider taking about 1.5k points worth of shooting and only taking 6 wounds (Chaos truly smiled upon my teammate this game), then proceeds to Tank Shock a Warwalker and kills it outright and takes a Wraithlord down to 1 wound with it's two lascannon shots

The Predator and Sicaran takes the Wraithknight down to 4 wounds from 18 before the Predator makes an 11 inch charge to Tankshock it and deal the max 6MW with only 6 dice rolled.

Huron and his squad take the Avatar of Khaine down to 1 wound before dying in a fiery blaze (Ironic for Huron to die to "Melta" a second time)

 

A great game and lots learned! We nearly all units as Undivided with the exception of my bikes and to be honest, Undivided definitely seemed the superior mark across the board, even without Profane Zeal!

Lots more to experiment with for sure but very happy with how they play so far
