I'm getting there with the Black Legion, I've been painting less/painting easier projects these last few weeks as the UK is quite warm at the moment. Progress so far:

 

Still loads to do but we're looking pretty nice so far!

I'm essentially copying the scheme I've painted for my pal previously (these models I'm painting are also for him)

Really liking the Khârn! Is he for a Hounds of Abaddon warband or just using similar colors? Either way as guardian31 said it's cool to see him in a different color scheme.

@gaurdian31 The eyes are going to be blue as you'll see in these photos, otherwise I think I'd have to much Red on some models!

@Volgon Khârn was painted up last year for the same pal I'm painting these guys for. He was doing an undivided BL army that he could branch out to all the Cults and keep the same scheme. I figured Hounds was the most obvious choice to keep everything unified although he's not branching into World Eaters anymore

 

I started edge highlighting all the black armour and hated it so wnet back in with a sponge and went for a more battered look. Not quite as battered as The Purge models though:

 

They're still not finished by a good chunk of the way there!

The weathering looks great, they look like they have been in the fight for awhile. The blue is looking good for the lenses as well!

After a few very busy weeks, I've managed to get most of the Black Legion done and also the rhino for my Corsairs:

Nothing fancy but is definitely a good showcase in how much Nuln oil has changed in pigment looking at the the 3 rhinos together! New Nuln Oil is much more of a grey than a black wash

The Forgefiend got a lot more work after the photo was taken is basically there apart from the base. I saved the best til last and will be getting the Defiler done!

I also got a "serious" game in at my FLGS last night vs Death Guard as my opponent has a tournament this weekend and I wanted to flex the competitive muscles (read: Noodle Arms).

I got most of the way through building a serious list, hitting the current CSM classics when I remembered who I was and promptly filled the rest of the list with Bikes, a Maulerfiend and Defiler. As seems to be the case when I run these things, they were my MVPs with the Maulerfiend withstanding a silly amount of shooting (mixed with the Dark Gods smiling on 8 Daemon saves against Lascannons, back to back) , the Defiler sitting on the middle point in the last 2 turns and crushing anything that came towards it and the bikes scoring me points where I couldn't get other units over fast enough. The Master of Possession also put in some great work and made the Legionnaries much much faster than they should be, almost functioning similarly as the Chosen. I think it was the right amount of silly to good units, although when Shark-Tank is painted up I'd definitely like to get both in a list.

Whilst I love narrative focused games there's definitely a competitive itch I enjoy scratching so I'm aiming to go to more events and tournaments. If nothing else it guarantees I paint more dollies and get 6 games in!

Sounds like it was a good time. Also glad to see I am not the only one who likes to put a member of the squad in the rhino on top of the rhino. Haven't tried putting a Master of Possession with anyone other than possessed so I may try that out. Shark tank is coming along well!

It's also a clarity thing for me and my opponent, I think. My opponent can look at a rhino and know that there's Huron or a Master of Executions in that rhino and I can remember that the rhino actually has guys in and isn't empty

 

I got some games in against Quins and Imperial Fists this weekend,  the terminator lord killed his way through 10 Heavy intercessors, a captain and a Biologus and spent the entire game locked in this one combat after his Terminator escort died to overwhelming shooting. Great games all round!

 

 

Shark-tank is getting there too, the armour is mostly done althought I want to go into some of the black areas with a lighter grey. The skin is done too but it's just the greens  and the bitty details left to do!

Thanks! I got absolutely stomped by a Solitare and a Death Jester after nearly killing both and thinking I'd be alright and able to take the hits

The two characters killed 10 marines and a Master of Possession in one Turn which was absolutely eye watering. Great game though!

The Fists and the Quins players were different people but the Fists player most definitely has an insta account (not that he's posted much recently)

I finally found a use for Johann! I stuck a GSC neophyte backpack on and figured he'd be some poor Ultramarine's PDF trooper. Ultramarines of course keeping all the good stuff for themselves, greedy buggers

 

I like the idea of classifications in the Chaos armoury. Although they have STC/Blueprints of their weapons, armour and vehicles, most of their stuff isn't going to come out of the forge looking like the standard thing? Not all Defilers are going to be 6 legged and have X or Y weapons, some might have 3 or have different weapons but would still be "Classed" as a Defiler because they're roughly the right size or can roughly level the right fire power. The Forgedrake and the Yaga pattern 'Fiends have been a really cool addition to my own head-cannon in that regard

 

This also means my Vows for CtA are done!

 

They don't all fit in my light box now they're all based

Awesome job! I feel the same about demons that you feel about demon engines. I wish GW would put out a bunch of different sculpts for both so they're all the same size but different looking as each should be.
