Chaos Marines 9e auto includes

Are there any auto-includes in this codex?

…or if you take a unit an auto include piece of wargear?

When I look at the Hellbrute, I can’t not look at them without a Mark of Tzeentch.  The first time it takes damage in a turn it reduces the Damage to 0.  Uhmm, yes please!  This forces your opponent to dedicate more firepower into a fairly inexpensive unit.

I was considering of a group of three Tzeench Helbrutes running up with a warpsmith.

Playing as AL the -1 to hit is 12" for Helbrutes and it stacks well with the mark of Tzeench

I think the black rune is auto include for a big unit of termies or possessed (word bearers possessed especially)

I do not think there is really much auto-include in the book as there is a lot reliant on other things and it is very easy to overcommit to something.  The one exception to me is the Master of Possession as I feel it is unlikely you will find a situation where he cannot support something.  Even opting against him for a cheaper HQ to get more bodies does not appear to garner much in my eyes.

Obliterators should be on the list. Priced right, not sure there's a better choice for HS.

Im not Sure how I feel about oblits, but I've used them on every game, they have utility for sure but AOC make the salvo profile feel a bit lame especially if your opponent spikes in his luck

Dank Apostle, MOS illusionary Supplication (transhuman to hit and no rerolls) and when your in-charge range switch to the Slaaneesh Power to assault and charge Great when escorting a 10 man Brick of Terminators, with the Black rune and MOP support so you could be sitting on a 10 man terminator unit that

Always Strikes First, Minus 1 to wound, Transhuman to hit, FNP and can do the assault and charge when required. Very Tough and Quite Scary

So far Oblits are dropping down my list slightly.  The Salvo is great in the right match up as mentioned, but the heavy shots I found to be terrible so far, especially against AoC (my last game). Also the potential to make 3 shots with it is brutal for that cost, and of course I rolled it twice, maybe hit twice… I just feel like it should change post AoC.

Also not loving the Apostle yet. Passing a single litany on a 3+ just gives me a feel for a better HQ which will be a force multiplier all game. We just have so many choices.

The MoP… definitely. So far every game he’s been gold.

My dark horse pick is the Venomcrawler. Great fast attack choice.

Auto-includes? No, at least I cannot see any.

I am, however, pretty happy all our HQ got a significant profile boost. The "regular" chaos lord is now the equivalent of a Primaris Captain. Not too shabby. I have never ran one, but I am considering doing so in my AL army. Basic build, the plate that confers permanent transhuman and 2+ AS (good with armour of contempt) and the 5+ wound shrug. With the thunder hammer, he can do some damage. A real shame the jump pack is gone, or he could have been a superlative smash captain. As it is now, I'd keep him in the back to improve shooting and present some relatively durable, semi-credible treat to combatants trying to close range.

1 in 6 chance of his buff not going off is over 15%.  You have good odds of missing the buff at least once per game which is rough to stomach for me.

Foot characters cannot guarentee they will be where they need to be so need greater consistency in what they can do.  Lords and Apostles suffer in this.

@Prot  The Dark Apostle passes his prayers on a 2+ while at least one Disciple is alive.  Does that change your calculus on him?

Lol. I completely overlooked that.  But to be fair, I’m only commenting on units I’ve played at least once…. So I’ll try to fit him in. It’s still a really tough choice.  I’m on,y using a Battalion as I assume most will now.

MoP is so hard to skip, the Disco Lord has been critical in all games. And then I typically reserve the last slot for a fluffy character… Huron, Harkaan, Warpsmith, etc. my buddy has been a longtime Word Bearer player and he’ll have a distinct advantage there so I’ll see it first hand this week.

For EC I would 100% take Lucius the Eternal in every list. There's no reason not to take him. His rules finally match his fluff.  I also would take noise marines as troops in EC with the sonic blasters and the 1 blastmaster per squad. I killed a necron trairch stalker or however that is spelled with just 3 hits from the blastmaster on the heavy shot setting with the 4 damage hits.

MoP is close to an auto include for all legions same as Possessed.  I ran two MSU in my game today against necrons and one of them blendered a unit of wraiths even through the wraiths 4++. The other MSU of Possessed hit a 20 man brick of necron warriors and wiped them out. The addition of exploding sixes in turn 3 was huge.  If nothing else having Possessed is like a distraction carnifex that will have the enemy focusing so much on them it leaves your options (hello noise marines in an EC list) not targetted.
