The Year of Chaos

Recommended Posts

So at the beginning of the year, we were told this would be the year of Chaos. So far, I feel like GW has delivered, and if they are able to deliver some or all of what's been previewed, it will have been pretty legendary.

We knew going in that there would be a KT box and a 40k box per season. Three of those are out now, and all three have featured Chaos, giving us options for the early acquisition of Chosen, Legionnaires and Traitor Guard. Two Chaos dexes out, one announced and another in the more distant future. And souping/ warband enabling mechanics for 3/4. Personally, I believe GW will be trying hard to get the WE out before the end of the year, in which case we can also add a Daemon Primarch to the list of offerings.

It hasn't been perfect- personally, I think "Perfect" is a lot to ask for... But then, I didn't lose Jump Pack Lords either, and I think I'd be pretty choked if I had despite all the other awesomeness. The supply chain/ shipping issues continue to take their toll- we've got a lot of unreleased CSM Cultist Kits (which I am foaming at the mouth to get my hands and brushes on!).

Mostly, I can't wait to have all four dexes in my hand so I can corelate the Crusade content from all 4 and work my way from a single Cultist kill team to 150PL CSM & Daemons + 10PL CK, and maybe 50PL Kson allies.

Anyone else have plans for Souped-up Chaos Warbands?

Something chaotic is indeed in the air. Back in the day I picked up Autilon Skorr and a cheap Heresy-era Ahriman. Skor was only slightly modified (lost his topknot and had his rod replaced with a power ax). Ahriman got his head lopped off and became a sorcerer for the XXth. And then they sat on my shelf with a handful of havocs, languishing.

But I have been feeling inspired, and I have found myself making an Alpha Legion warband, so using cultists alongside them is pretty much a given. I may even make some xenos proxies, not sure. I have a kitbashed zoat lying around which I think would make for a funny ally.

Daemons are slightly less appealing but some scavenging furies or playful nurgling hangers-on may be fun.

Could it have had more chaos? Sure. But I don't think many were expecting to see the two new knight kits. Nor do I feel people were thinking they would see a daemons dex anytime soon yet here we are. Not to mention Angron himself which gives us quite the daemon prince advantage with Magnus and Mortarion over just poor girlyman.

But you know whats even better? Space Marines haven't gotten :cuss: for a while. They really populated the first part of this release but have finally been toned down a bit and letting the rest of the genre catch up.

New Chaos Knights, new CSM codex, daemons and World Eaters to come- it's been pretty decent for Chaos. I know people wanted more- maybe a whole re-launch of CSM's model line, but this has been a good year for the spiky boys.

I don't remember GW mentioning a single game system when speaking about year of chaos. There's going to be a huge release of chaos for AOS before end of the year, and that will include the new Daemon Prince kit that is shared between AOS and 40k. When you consider both 40k and AOS and Specialist games like Kill Team and Warcry, not to mention the upcoming World Eaters, the year of chaos starts to look pretty impressive imo.
