Getting started help ....

Hi all.

I want to delve into Kill Team. I want to know what I will need in order to play Kill Team with the following factions: Space Marines (Blood Angels and Dark Angels), Eldar, and Necrons.

I know I need the core rulebook, but what about other books for those factions?

I have so much terrain, game board, 40k armies, etc that I do not want to buy one of the boxed sets ... just the required books ... also what about dice or additional accessories like cards, templates, etc? My Kill Team knowledge is effectively 0 at this point. Thanks.

You will want the kill team accessories set. Technically, you can play without it if you translate all distances into inches and remember which models have acted, but it makes gameplay much easier.

The basic rules for all the factions can be found in the kill team compendium book. However, some factions have had more specialist kill teams released that have more versatile options and are generally more fun to play.

For space marines, use the compendium for now. They have the phobos strike team in the kill team moroch box (rules also currently exclusive to the box), but, as much as I actually like phobos, the upgrade sprue over the basic kit is mostly cosmetic in value, and a missed opportunity to make rievers decent in main 40k as well. Tactical marines are probably your best bet for a versatile blood/dark angels team, with intercessors second, the basic infiltrators team can also be kinda fun to play, if repetitive.

Necrons don't have a special team, so just use the rules in the compendium.

Eldar just had their special team released separately for pre-order. The corsair voidscarred; they're really cool models, and mix the aesthetics and weapons of both drukhari and craftworlds. Their rules can be found in the kill team nachmund book (also on pre-order).

Various white dwarfs also have extra teams and rules. If you can get this month's (478), it has a compiled collection of the terrain rules from all the expansions, so will save you getting them if you want all the terrain traits.

Hope this helps, and good luck getting into kill team 21, it's a great game system, and a lot of fun to play.

(I'll also make a mandatory plug for my kill team cheat sheet, which contains a summary of all the core rules, weapon abilities and terrain traits, contained to four sides of A4. You can find here.)

So to confirm its the rule book, compendium, and then pick up the accessories kit?

Yes, exactly that, if you already have miniatures and terrain to use

Just to add, that accessories kit comes with the counters which are also part of the game; you may find you can get by without the objective/tac ops counters, but you'll find you do need the 'order' counters (the ones that indicate if you've given a miniature a conceal or engage order - that affects what they're able to do and whether they're able to be shot at etc.)
