3k Death Guard Reaping with many tanks

Hey guys,

with a massive pile of space marines still and as many tanks still in their sprue as well as the realisation that my formerly envisaged mechanised alpha legion force can't be played anymore due to rule changes, I searched for a legion that could accommodate all the tanks I still have in my collection as well as the plethora of Mk III marines and Cataphractii I still have lying around. After some searching I realised that the DG with their new legion trait seems to excel at tanks as well as moving infantry and I thought I'd build a fluffy list with all the stuf I've got lying around. This list is meant to represent a traitor detachment of the death guard deployed in the early stages of the HH. With the Reaping RoW making HSS Troops, I thought I'd would be thematic to fully saturate the Heavy Support Slots with tanks whilst using even more heavy weapons in my troops slots. I have not counted the ranged output of this list in T1, but if I get T1 with this list and get everything into range after my first movement phase, the damage potential seems to be substantial, not only from the tanks but also from the HSS with their Culverins/Auto cannons and even the Tactical Squads who can FotL at 24" and close the gap afterwards.

The game plan is relatively simple: with all the tanks and infantry being able to move and shoot as if they were stationary, everything in this list can move forward towards objectives in the first time whilst being able to shoot. I suppose that my anti-tank isn't too bad given the lascannons on my vehicles as well as the vindicator cannons. MEQ's also are a non-issue given the vindicators and pure volume of mobile fire from the infantry. One thing I worry about are Contemptors and WS5 2W Terminators like Iron drakes etc. For this, switching one of the HSS to multi-meltas to ID those Death Star units would probably make sense. Honestly speaking, while I want to use my generic terminators because I already got them, I feel like WS5 terminators like Deathshroud would make much more sense in light of the new melee rules.

I gave the tactical marines chain bayonets because they allow them to wound other marines in the first round of combat on 2+ with the rad grenades on the sergeants, which makes them quite dangerous in melee, at least against non-specialist marines.

What are your opinions?

HQ

Praetor in Terminator Armour
- Cataphractii armour, Paragon blade, Rad Grenades
- RoW: The Reaping

Troops

2 x 20 Tactical Marines
- Vexilla, Chain bayonets, Sergeant with rad grenade

10 Heavy Support Marines
- Volkite Culverins, Sergeant with rad grenade

10 Heavy Support Marines
- Auto Cannons, Sergeant with rad grenade

Elites

10 Cataphractii Terminators
- 6x Power fist, 3x chain fist, 2x heavy flamer with alchemy, Sergeant with power fist
- Spartan with hull-mounted twin-linked lascannon and flare shield

2 x Apothecaries with AA (go into the tactical squads)

Heavy Support

3 x Vindicator
with dozer blades

2 x Predators
with Gravis lascannon turret and sponson lascannons

1 x Sicaran
with heavy bolters all-around and pintle mounted heavy bolter

should be exactly 3k points.

I like this list. Sounds like you’ve thought through most situations! I think it should be able to handle all the normal lists you could face, maybe some Fury of the Ancients or massively infantry heavy lists could cause you trouble. But those kind of “all the eggs in one basket” lists will always cause problems.

Hope you build the list and have fun with it.
