One-Eye in the Darkness II - Exorcists Vth company and other WIPs

After a looooooong hiatus, I am coming back to modelling and painting. 

I will tackle several things but mostly be building a new force of Space marines, and after much much thinking, I chose to develop an Exorcists force.

 

 

I am among the ones that think that this is an amazing and underated chapter, with a lot of potential if we allow to diverge a little bit from the chapter approved recently dedicated to them. Not that I don't like it, the IF geneseed doen't bother me. But I prefered the mystery around the ascendance.

Anyway, what pleases me the most is the theme of demon possessed marines that both overcomed this possession but still bear the marks of it (be it physically or psychologically).  I specifically think that GW has lost the opportunity to develop the librarius much more. With a chapter symbol identical to the SM librarians symbol and librarians that has endured a warp demon possession, I would imagine that they have extraordinary librarians. Last but not least, it is a Badab War chapter.

 

Enough waffling, I did a test model. My goal is to make the scheme simple, vivid and a little bit darker that the "official" one.

Actually, I will make a Vth company force, so the black trims on shoulder pads make sense, but I went for a black chest eagle also, rather than the too bright official one. 

 

 

Yes, reaper helmet will be a must for all sarge^^

That's a really nice red! Can I ask how you did it? Also the chapter symbol on the gun shield is a great detail. I like the switch to black for the plastron eagle, works great with the 5th company colours.

Nothing warms my heart like a Badab War chapter. I love your test mini and wholeheartedly agree with your points on the Exorcists' current fluff. Looking forward to more!

The recipe is quite simple : black undercoat, two different metallic colors, Duraluminium and Aluminium by Vallejo, then Blood angels contrast paint, all by airbrush. The BA part is a little bit tricky (too thin it's pink, too thick it dulls completely the metal effect). Pin wash in black and scratches in metallic again and you're done :)

Second test model, with a slighly modified Dark imperium captain. First try at OSL, the effect is not there but I learnt.

Pretty happy with the scheme overall, I'll begin with the Indomitus assault squad (already built).

Love it!

 

You could try to put  little white, or very light yellow, dots into the wholes of the ball. That could improve the look somewhat. Making it more bright looking. The freehand is amazing! Fantastic work.

The chapter symbol is decal, on shoulder pads and even on the cape. No freehand there (just Micro Set / Sol), then shadows / highlights on the decal.

My first 3 assault marines, from Indomitus box (I'm late to the party, I know^^). Slightly converted to give them a more Exorcists (Zealots ?) look.

Looking pretty damned sweet there mate.  Very much like borderline loyalist Word Bearers, which is always the feel I had from Exorcists.  I have never collected a canon Chapter and never will but if I did Exorcists would be one of the ones I would look at.

I have the same feeling, they can be related to loyalists Word Bearers, kind of. They also have strong Thousand Sons vibes (not the Egyptian part, moreso the link to the warp).

The next 3 of the assault squad. Again slightly modified (to have 10 different instead of 2x5). Some with filled Mk 10 helmets.

 

I like using some Thousands Sons 30k decals to represent hexamatic runes on their armor :)
