The Ashimar Crusade

In recent weeks, I've been painting Black Templars. These guys are named for a planet in a friend's homebrew, which the around sixty-strong Crusade is to aid.

Spoiler

During the initial strokes of the campaign, Marshal Sigimer commanded from the world of Dintager V, within the Chapter Keep there. The large ebon tower was installed during the Macharian Crusade, and it had seen several Castellans in the centuries since. However, it had fallen into obscurity during this time. By the time of the Ashimar Crusade, only Castellan Drusus and the descendants of the original serfs remained in the Keep.

Drusus greeted the newly-cast Marshal and the first Fighting Company to arrive in-system with no small amount of trepidation. The Primaris Astartes led by Sigimer, their Martian influences, and their strange wargear disquieted the Castellan. But, he welcomed them nonetheless. Alien as they were, they were Astartes in a sector at war.

Almost immediately, the Keep on Dintager V flared back to life. Sigimer made sure to resupply and rearm his Crusade using the Keep’s amenities. Repulsors rolled off once-dormant assembly lines, while artificer’s workshops once more heard the din of ball-peen hammers and plasma cutters. That this happened so quickly was no accident. The Black Templars, well aware of the potential for “conquered” worlds to renege on their oaths, built such complexes rugged.

Sigimer’s first priority after seeing to his forces’ supply was to strike hard at the heretics arrayed against Ashimar. While in no position to break the back of Vektaris’s forces on their lonesome, the Black Templars could certainly make their presence known. However, early on, the mere handful of Astartes at his disposal limited Sigimer’s options somewhat. Though he did his best to minimize losses and maximize his operations’ impact, the Marshal was well aware the single Fighting Company then at his disposal was but a single unit in a vast war. The knights of his ‘household’, the Sword Brethren, were thus often on loan to the other Chapters in-theater, where they could be best used. Serving as crack shock troops, they added their weight and fervor to the early actions of the Siege.
