How do smoke and mirrors and templete interact?

Hey, does anybody know if your enemy gets to change the position of the template or they have to leave in the original spot once you teleported your unit?

The template application is used to determine how many hits the declared shooting attack inflicts on target unit (AoD rulebook p152). Determining amount of hits is part of resolving shooting attack. Therefore, with the following quote from Liber Hereticus p331:

 

"Before resolving the shooting attack, the unit targeted by the shooting attack may be redeployed."

 

This means that Smoke and mirrors is executed/resolved before shooting attack is executed/resolved but after same shooting attack is declared (Declaration of shooting attack: Informing your opponent that friendly unit A will do shooting attack against enemy unit B). Therefore application of template is not done until Smoke and mirrors is resolved. When smoke and mirrors is resolved, then you can still do the same shooting attack if you have line of sight. if not, then that shooting attack count as being expended.

 

So no, the template is only applied once the reaction is done and the model doing the shooting attack still have LoS and therefore can do the originally intended shooting attack (with or without template weapons).

As above, the order would be:

1) declare target of shooting attack

2) declare you are using S&M

3) Reposition unit

4) Initial unit makes attacks via to-hit rolls and placing templates etc.
