Rules Question Leman Russ Squadron with Cult of Sacrifice

Hi all,

 

someone just told me that 3 Cult of Sacrifice Leman Russ get +1 to hit after the unit is deployed using the Vehicle Squadron ability because then the units are under starting strength. He argues they are below starting strength because deployment is happening pre battle, and not during battle. Please refer to Starting Strength, Half-strength and Destroyed Units BRB page 201.

I do not think that this is correct. The Vehicle Squadron ability states:

From that point on, each model in this unit is treated as a separate unit.

 

This means that each Leman Russ counts as a Unit of 1 model so can never count as being below half strength. The original unit of 3 Russes ceases to exist.

Rules like these should have wording for single units, sisters have a similar problem as this rule is a copy and paste from there

Thanks for your answers. I thought this can only be wrong. 

 

He argued that Starting Strength refers only to splitting up during the Battle but Deployment is happening pre battle. The guy is a hardcore RAW Person, so it is sometimes difficult to find the right arguments. I think the ability VS explains it absolutely sufficiently.
