Hey guys just need clarification, haven’t run marines in a while.

can combat squads be used to deploy one half on table and one half in reserve.

can combat squads be used by s unit in reserve to create two units that come on independently?

thanks

No - unless you're playing narrative or rulebook missions. The GT mission book separates mission set up into stages, 10: declare reserves and transports; 11: deploy. You have to declare what is going into reserve before you begin deploying, and you can't combat squad until you begin deploying - so you have to decide whether the unit goes into reserves (be it strategic, deep strike or other) reserve before they combat squad.

I think you can, and declare it in the deployment phase.

The core rule book FAQ covers this folks:smile:

At the Start of Deployment: A rule that happens ‘at the start of deployment’, is resolved at the start of the ‘Declare Transports and Reserves’ step of the sequence. Combat Squads (see Codex: Space Marines) is an example of just such a rule

So looks like you can do crazy things like combat squad then put half a unit on the table then half into reserve:ermm:

But then again 9th is all about craziness:laugh:
