2k ITC Tournament Help for House Fásacha

House Fásacha marching into battle for the good of the Imperium in WY.

Frontier Open 2023 - Warhammer 40k GT

2000 pts, ITC Championship Format (what does this mean?), 5 rounds over 2 days.

This will be my first ever ITC tournament and I figure my Knight Army is in the best shape strategy wise (and that isn't saying much.) I want to see how I stack up. But I would like pointers and opinions on how I can make my six Knights work for me. They are the whole of what I own as Knights though I do have some Inquisitors and other armies that I could borrow from if I need to. It's an Arks of Omen based tourney.

What weapons are you running on the Moirax?

 

Off the top of my head, with what you have and House Vulker rules this is what I came up with- 

Points- 20000

CP- 2

House- Vulker

Oaths- Defend the Realm, Refuse No Challenge

Warglaives (290 points)- 2x with stubbers

Moirax (160 points)- 1 w/volkite and claw

Knight Castellan (635 points)- 2x siegebreaker cannons 

Knight Crusader (485 points)- RFBC, Stubber, with Exalted Court (Master of Vox), Heirloom of the house (Armour of the Sainted Ion) and Knight Baron (Ion Bulwark)

Knight Preceptor (440 points)- Thunderfist, multi-laser, with Warlord, Warlord Trait (Adamantine Knight), Relic (Sanctuary), and Knightly Teachings (The Folly of Virtue, The Knight's Faith, and the Virtue of Courage)

 

With the Oaths, Defend is a must, the 2CP on your turn will keep you moving, and Refuse No Challenge is probably the easiest one to not get a Troth on as long as you don't fall back. Your Knights really don't want to be in melee, aside from the Preceptor/Warglaives, so the other two Oaths can really penalize you if you take them (Lay Low requiring melee kills for Honor and require a minimum 2 kills in general for not Troth, while Protect forces you to Heroic even with your Castellan/Crusader to not Troth). 

 

You don't have a lot of Armigers, so only one Exalted court is really needed/affordable- the Master of Vox will allow you to give your Armigers +1 BS from anywhere (and possibly a CP back on a 5+) and allows the Crusader to not be tied to the Armigers. I would use the Preceptor/Warglaives to push onto a midfield objective, always Teaching The Virtue of Courage to help the Warglaives survive and possibly using The Folly of Virtue to let a Warglaive Renew the Oaths and still shoot if you take that secondary, otherwise the Knight's Faith for exploding 6s to hit, The Crusader and the Moirax rush a second objective. Your Castellan will most likely have to stay back and guard your backfield objective (if you have one) and try to potshot the enemy's big stuff while defending from deepstrikers. 

 

Not going to lie, your army is going to be playing on Hard Mode. Knights aren't the greatest right now, our secondaries need some work (all need to be buffed slightly) and the current meta lists all favor going hard in with Armigers rather than big Knights (typically 2/7 or 1/10 in terms of Questoris/Armigers). You're going to lack board presence only having six units and will rely on just basic toughness to survive (thus the WT/Relics that are all about increasing saves). Good news, I'll be at the Frontier Open as well, so you'll have another Imperial Knights player there who will be vying for the Wooden Spoon :biggrin:

So I will now start posting up results and lists. People can make their own judgements on how I did. I liked how it went, the opponents were fun players and I did well. I met my goal of at least one win and averaging above 50 most otherwise. I apologize ahead of time I didn't take pictures during round 5. I blame my getting tired by that point.

So Bryan won best painted I believe and Nick had the best win rate of the Imperial Knight players. Just wanted to note that here. 

Bryan, Nick, and Garrett all had at least 3 wins. So Congrats to them all. 

I signed up for another ITC 2k Tournament in my area. I am now Debating running Imperial Knights again. Maybe with a bit of a list change up as I should have two new Moriax to add to my mix, or I could run one of my other Imperial Armies. 

I have Space Marines, Astra Militarum, and Admech I could run. 

Astra Militarum I think is in the next best condition for Tourney play. I will get to test them later this week.

Talking over my guard list with a guard player, it’s fluffy and might work but is definitely subpar. So similar to my Knight list but a lot less powerful but much more board presence. I am leaning to going Knight again but maybe dropping the Preceptor for Two Moriax and maybe a Vindicare Assassin.

So with the shake up trial of the Guard it is the Knights to run the board in tournament. Just what combination is a question.

It's going to be hard to change up your list from the Frontier Open with only adding in two Moirax- losing either the Crusader or Preceptor is going to mean loss of Bondsman abilities, while losing the Castellan means that even with adding in a Vindicare you're looking at being about 200 points shy of 2000. If you had another Armiger of any type it could work, as long as you upgraded both the Crusader and Preceptor to have carapace weapons (or give the Preceptor Knight Baron and a Exalted Court upgrade).

I was thinking of Dropping the Preceptor and giving the Castellan the Master of Lore Exalted Court upgrade to do the bondsmen ability but I am unsure if that is a good path.

Hmm. Since the Preceptor doesn't get a Bondsman ability, just the Knightly Teachings, using the Castellan instead might actually work. You might not be able to fit in the Vindicare though- I'm showing the list at 2025 with the 2 Warglaives, 3 Moirax, Crusader w/Master of Vox, Castellan w/Master of Lore, and Vindicare.

Good point, I wasn't able to do up all the adding in the Warhammer app since it doesn't do the Exalted Court upgrades. Dropping the Vindicare then would free up for more upgrades however. Still have been thinking through this process, and wondering if it is worth losing the high intensity shots of the Preceptor which are very effective against high toughness and armor.

True. Losing the Preceptor gets you two Moiraxes though, which increases your board control possibilities. Dropping the Vindicare would let you take meltas on the two Warglaives, a Stormspear pod/melta instead of stubber on the Crusader to get you to 1990 points.

Yup. Maybe put it on a Moirax, as the Warglaives won't get a lot of benefit from the +1 to Wound unless you're putting them into T8 or higher stuff. The volkite on the Moirax will have much more use for the Helm and you even will be able to chip-shot vehicles with the rad-cleansers on 5+ which is better than the 6s you're normally need.

I was thinking on a twin Lightning Lock Moriax for the Either the Bastard Bond or the host and yea the other on Volkite. The third Moriax with claw and Beam Cannon.

It wouldn't be a bad option- with the Helm the volkite becomes very similar to the Helverin autocannon but damage 2 rather than 3, and with the possibility of mortal wounds. Since you don't already have Helverins, using a couple of Moirax as stand-ins in your backfield could work really well.

Claw/Flamer Moiraxes can be pretty funny when you can pair them with an Errant that can give out perma-4++. 

Advance - Shoot Flamers - Charge. It's a lot of early pressure. 

 

Might also be worth looking at another Household. Before the Guard codex came out I was running a Freeblade Lance at a number of events and they were great fun, with lots of neat tools. Like the above Moirax' could have Strike & Shield, so they only be hit on 4s after they charged in turn 1. If you run multiple big knights as Freeblades it could also be worth giving one of them the trait that lets them come in from reserves turn 1.

So I won 3 games out of six. I am still downloading pictures but I honestly didn't take enough pictures of my actual battles. I apologize for that. I want to write up some of these when I have time. My favorite game was game 4 and as a note I played Chaos Knights Games 4 and 5, Imperial Knights Game 6, Black Legion with Abaddon Game 2 and 3 with Game 3's version to have a patrol of Wardogs. So lots of Knight violence on my part.
