Building a Hive Gang

Recommended Posts

So I am going to build some lore for a Hive Gang and this seemed like the right spot. I don't have much so far.

The Helix Blades are a Hive Gang of the Planet Cogger. Owing it's allegiance to two great houses it walks a fine line but because of this it has grown immensely powerful in the underhives. The Helix blades owe their success to shadow work and technologies provided by their patrons. House Therrica provides them with technology while they owe favors to House Graves. Led by the mysterious Eletox, a former layman of the Mechanicus, his rapid fire Mangler and Servo skulls are a bane to his enemies. His lieutenants were part of his former section in a Mechanicum factory. Lisiy leads his pit fighters and brawlers while Asban leads his snipers and covert operations acting as his base of operations commander. These deadly ladies are fiercely loyal to Eletox. He has attracted all manner of skilled labor for those both initiated but fallen favor or never were fully in the grasp of the Omnissiah. He leads many expeditions to find tech for his masters.

House Graves - A House of shadow brokers, dealing with delicate information, espionage, assassination. They rule from the shadows. House Graves has a relatively small standing guard force compared to the other major houses. They are used almost entirely to guard the manors of House Grave. Experts at infiltration, sabotage and assassination, these specialists more than make up for House Graves small numbers with cold, calculated efficiency.

House Therrica-  An Old Guard House, has long been suspected of holding ties to the Mechancium given their tendency to support the Adepts of Mars in matters that concern the interests of the keepers of technology.

A few observations and questions to keep you going.

1. House Therrica provides the gang with tech, presumably as payment for their services. This is pretty clear.

2. They owe favours/are indebted to House Graves. Not really clear on why though, so this could use fleshing out. What did House Graves do for them that they now serve two masters.

3. What is the relationship between the two houses? Are they allies that are both investing in the gang as a mutual shared resource for clandestine operations? Or perhaps they are enemies, House Therrica being the original Patron, while House Graves has now engineered a hold over the gang through devious means (as masters of secrets and such), in preparation of a plan to take down House Therrica through guile by having the gang betray them at some critical point.

A few other thoughts about the background of the leaders: They were at one point, part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, though not fully trained as techpriests at the time they left from what I gather. The implication seems to be they left on bad terms, stealing equipment along the way. Are they wanted for these crimes? Are they being actively hunted by the Mechanicus, Adeptus Arbitrs or the Inquistion as filthy heretics?

If so, why would they be taken in and supported by a Great House with known ties to the Mechanicus? Or perhaps this is the secret House Graves is holding over their heads as leverage?

Alternately were they perhaps  let go into the hands of House Therrica as part of some obscure back channel Mechanicum deal they made?

Anyway hope the feedback is helpful. Maybe run this by the Necromunda forum as well. Though the game lore specifically focuses on that planet I am sure the people there might have an idea or two on how hive gangs work
