And while re-rolls to hit and wound are much rarer now, Space Marines have more access to reflect their elite status – chiefly through the Oath of Moment faction ability. Your warriors may be few, but they’re terrifyingly efficient Angels of Death.

That is the ironic thing. If Space Marines have it, then in practice it is not rare.

Not loving that they’re bringing a similar amount of special rules back to armies via Detachments. Why do they feel the need to do this?

So they can create more units and more options so we can buy more models.

My guess is that it'll be in the rules that, unless otherwise stated, each model can attack with one weapon. Not all.

If we're going by AoS (which this seems to be modelled off), you make attacks from all weapons you're equipped with.

So Vashtorr's "pick 1 ability from this list of 3" could be the norm as we see from GMan's datasheet. Pretty cool!

Vehicles and Monsters are definitely getting a glow up it seems!

Devastating wounds was 6s to wound cause a Mortal wound in addition? Or was it they cause Mortal Wounds of the damage characteristics?

Or was that something else?

If I remember right, it's mortals equal to the damage characteristic.

6's to wound = Mortals equivalent to the weapon's damage.

Not in addition.

A 6 to wound causes a mortal wound equal to the damage of the weapon and the attack sequence ends.

So we still don't know how Subfactions will work, meaning, what's the difference between playing Salamanders and Iron Hands? Maybe it works like 9th edition Guard where the Chapter/Regiment is meaningless and you just choose a Detachment?

Too soon to say, but my fears about loosing flavour for the different Subfactions remains the same.

They keep focusing on the "Gladius" detachment which any marines can use. However in the footnote it says:

* Several other famously less conventional Chapters – including the likes of the Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and Dark Angels – will get their own unique Detachment rules. You’ll be able to choose which ones to use as you compose your army list.

So there will be some flavour left available. But it does feel like the differences between say Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Salamanders might be less pronounced.

Your "subfaction" (IH, WS, Sallies etc) is the Detatchment and it's rules. Subfactions of old are gone as we knew them

When the indexes drop, there will be one for each army which is the Gladius Strike Force for Space marines. When the codexes drop you will get more detatchments to better reflect the various ways SM do war but on release there's nothing to differentiate IH, WS, Sallies, RG etc.

From what I understand there'll be no rules for Salamanders, Iron Hands, etc.
In the codex there will be multiple detachement and I think they'll have little flavor text like "The mechanized detachement is the favoured way for Iron Hands to fight" for example.

Don’t expect too much for the Index.

The real proving ground will be the Codex release.

Very interesting.  I was right in multi-meltas keeping two shots.

bringing rend back is awesome.

Doctrines…yeah, with nothing to compare them to look pretty good.  Inferno Sqauds will like Devastator Doctrine followed by Tactical Doctrine.

Land Raiders look great, still need pts to really judge.  The Assault Ramp, is great but missing disembark and shoot but no charge after the vehicle advances.

Guilliman looking like a Primarch, though he can still die in one turn.  Hopefully the ‘can only take x damage a phase’ is gone.  That is so annoying.

Is the Heavy Laser Destroyer good now?  Gonna have to wait and see.  I would love to use my Repulsors/Executioners.

Oh, not only Terminators, but Gravis and Centurians got extra toughness, interesting.  What will that be?  Guessing Gravis toughness 6, and Centurians toughness 7 or 8..

Slightly concerned to see the Multimelta at Strength 9. It's still got two shots and -4 pen to the good, but losing 6" of range and having to get within 9" for the +2 damage feels a bit limiting when we're seeing multi-shot Las weapons with D6+1 damage from 48" and a Strength that puts then at +2 to wound over the Melta against heavy tanks.

I don't think that anyone doubted that Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels and Black Templars would get some kind of special rules.

My fear is mainly for the more standard Chapters, it already gutted me to see Guard Regiments loose all their flavour in 9th, would hate for it for that to happen to everyone else.
