Going from W2 to W3 is pretty potent with all the D2 weapons floating around. W3 to W4 not as impressive

Very true.

It will be nice having a power weapon in a Character that isn’t anaemic.  Power Weapon on things like Sergeants and Vanguard seems appropriate.  Thunder hammers seem a little undervalued.  Though I understand people’s point.  On one model, even a Captain with 5x attacks they are 100% right, trying to get that 6 on him is a bit of a waste.  I believe though en masse they are incredible.  You can rely on their hits, and getting those 6s.  Using Assault Terminators as an example.  How do you want the unit kitted?  Are you going after Oath of Moment target?  Use Thunder hammers.  Or, are you letting the rest of your army going after your Oath of Moment target, in that case Lightning Claws.  Kinda leads me to point out everyone saying that anything twin-linked is redundant shooting at your Oath of Moment target, no dah, Oath of Moment only targets 5x units, more with Guiliman, what about other targets?

Just going to point out that we know of some things that can put holes in tanks for Marines:

Also Lascannons:

And chain fists:

Basically the game is going to a less "one size fits all" approach and giving things more defined niches which means we'll need to be looking at running more variety instead of spamming single options.

So Deathwatch are just going to be Codex Space Marines now?

It's possible. If they get their own Detachment rule, Stratagem(s), and their unit cards have weapons like "Deathwatch Bolt Rifle (pick an ammo mode)", then it's all good, and one book less to buy?

My takeaway was they don't want to do 26 or so faction focus articles.

I find that pretty odd, since they got till somewhere around mid June till the new Edition. They've already covered 9 so far. Assuming they stick to business days for artcles, they could get everybody by the 6th, with more time to spare before preorders... unless preorders START at the beginning of June... food for though I have to chew on.

Anyway, I very much doubt Death Watch will get lumped into Space Marines. The way I see them, and how they have been portrayed is just like Custodes and Grey Knights, Hyper-Elite Power Armor army. Honestly, they share more in common with the latter than the former, with the only difference I see is that they are less Psychic focused and more specialized against Xenos vs Deamons.

I find it would make sense for GW to redesign them from the ground up, they don't fight like space marines, they fight like G.I.Joe. Everybody is kind of a character with their own unique set of skills. I can only hope that there was one designer in Nottingham that was pulling his hair out back in 8th because of 5-10 man blocks of Vets ALL equipped with Stormbolter/Storm Shields.

Besides, folding them into Space Marines goes against what I see as one of their core design principles of reducing the mental rules cognizance of the game; If I'm a Death Watch player, why would I pay for a book where I don't care about 90% of what's in it?

However, I am not opposed to being wrong if that is what happens. I will make do.

Strange yeah.

GW's word's "unique rules for using killteams as well as detachment rules" strongly implies separate faction to me.

The killteam system seems like it'll override OoM then rather than bolt another set of faction rules on top of another set which we aren't doing now. Faction rules + detachments are what makes something an independent book.

And yeah, given all the other marine flavours are spun off, it makes no sense for the most complicated flavour to share a book.

Not everyone will get a faction focus article it seems. They still will be a unique entity it seems.

Where was this shared? I've got folks calling it a troll post I'd like to satisfy.

Uh, okay

Thanks so much! It was so annoying having folks in other communities question the validity of this shot. I don't use Facebook so I had no idea how to verify or get a link for folks myself. You're a time saver and I appreciate you.

Sucks that Deathwatch dont get a preview, but their codex was confirmed at Warhammer fest

Maybe its something as dumb as they wanted an even 25 codex previews for one a weekday for 5 weeks

Then they probably should have started on a Monday not a Tuesday...

Oh I thought that meant they would just be wrapped into marine dex:unsure:

Its not like they have been popular, and they have had rather large balancing issues for quite some time, aka they were crud:tongue:

Deathwatch would also be cool as part of Imperial Agents faction rather than mainline astartes - I definitely still liked that 3rd edition interpretation of them (and 2nd/3rd edition interpretation of grey knights) better, namely small squads or formations of specialists that accompany other imperial forces, rather than (the exceedingly rare) large concentrations of those forces (which we shouldn't see so often per that earlier lore).

I presume that means we only get 24 faction focus articles then.

Sort of makes sense, the last one would then be June 2nd, preorder announcement on the 4th. Then a week of box show case, community painters for something sold out within minutes June 10th.
