Skywrath Permanently Banned

Recommended Posts

Skywrath was permanently banned yesterday after posting a screed about his disagreement with the recent changes to the Reactions. Disagreeing with the changes wasn't the issue (after all, five members have assigned the Respectfully Disagree Reaction to the initial change post and three have assigned that Reaction to the explanation that appeared a few days later - Skywrath was among those). Rather, it was the disrespectful and abusive treatment of other members in that screed that compelled the disciplinary action, behavior that repeated similar behavior over the years and for which Skywrath had received numerous previous warnings. In addition, he posted that screed via PM to other members.

To be fair, however, Skywrath did have some valid points in his screed in that he was one of the victims of malicious Reaction assignments. He was also under the mistaken impression that the resolve of the staff to take care of the problem with malicious Reaction assignments meant disciplinary action. Ironically, as a result of receiving malicious Reactions, he retaliated against those that bullied him by maliciously assigning Reactions to their content. So imposing discipline upon malicious Reaction users would have included him (and a few other victims that similarly retaliated in kind). Hence one of several challenges with the discipline option.

Regardless, his behavior was clearly unacceptable, requiring disciplinary action. And since it was the latest in a pattern of misbehavior of abuse towards members with which he disagreed, and he had previously received the ultimatum that any further instances of such misbehavior would result in a permanent ban, there was only one appropriate response on our part. The post (and a few replies to it) has been hidden to avoid the inevitable dogpile that would have resulted.
