Cadmus Tyro
File location: Carnac Commodus, personal log Date of entry: 5901 715 m41 Security clearance requirements ###OVERRIDDEN### “The tyrants aspirations are bold, it has to be said, but I fear they are unrealistic. To recreate the power of a legion, to quell a sector and bring full compliance and imperial authority. The emperor and his sons failed to achieve this at the height of the crusade, how can one astartes, no matter how gifted succeed where even the most mighty have failed? These are perhaps delusions of grandeur, and I fear we will suffer the same fate as those who preceded us. History will mark us traitors to the imperial cause and then, cut off from the throne, who will we turn to in the darkness? My misgivings matter little, it has already been set in motion and now we are carried along with the tide. We are bound to his fate and therefore we must press on if there is any hope that his endeavour will succeed……” Arch Centurion Carnac Commodus Spoiler Well hello there, welcome to my new Badab War blog! The Badab war originally passed me by during its release, but I’ve always had a soft spot for exploring the wealth of lore and space marine chapters that were involved in the conflict. I was recently convinced by a friend (you know who you are!) to start a side project focusing on the badab war, using some of the more modern kits from the Primaris range. After spending far too much time looking at the Apologists work, I decided a small true scale project would be quite a nice break from churning out HH work, as much as I enjoy it. The plan is to slowly build and paint a force in 500pt increments. Aiming to play some games using the 6th edition ruleset so we can use the official character and legion rules. I’ve chosen to do the astral claws as one of the main protagonists, I’ve always loved their scheme and how the tyrants legion list was a clear testing bed for the HH legion rules. The first conversion is Arch Centurion Carnac Commodus. What a well written character, with unique wargear and giving access to a retaliator squad as a troops choice! Hope you like him, stay tuned for more, I’ve got a lot of ideas…. The idea being the incorporation of various parts and conversions to make the modern Primaris models look a little more like their predecessors, but with more modern poses and proportions. The project hits the nostalgia button for me at least. Thanks for all the likes and comments so far everyone! Cadmus Tyro
Brother Araius Retaliator squad Ajax III Demi Legion “Huron’s will” Spoiler Spoiler Brother Ariaus, the first member of my retaliator squad. Knee pads and greaves have been adapted to mimic MkVII whilst the helmet and back pack were taken directly from an older model. Gorget trimmed to be more in scale with MKVII armour. His combat shield was press moulded from the original assault squad kit (the only place you can find the combat shields features in many of the FW images), the studs given more definition by using small glass beads. Chainsword taken from the MKiii kit. hope you like him! Firedrake Cordova
Nice work on the assault marine. apologist
Lovely, lovely work – I shall be watching with interest. Shovellovin
Excellent work! I think you really did a great job on capturing the imposing nature of a Space Marine (and a bit of the Astral Claws’ arrogance) with tha Amulius model. The dynamism of the assault marine is also well done. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Cadmus Tyro
Unknown legionary Retaliator squad Ajax III Demi Legion “Huron’s will” “To call Errant armour an entirely new mark of armour is perhaps a stretch. For it shares many aesthetic and functional similarities to its MKVII predecessor, that I feel somewhat loathed to call it MKVIII. Refinements in greave auto sense stability and enhanced gorget armour are welcome improvements, subtle yet, as battlefield statistical analysis has shown, it has improved mortality rates in astartes vs astartes engagements. Improvements to an existing design, not an entirely new classification. I fear it says more about the lack of innovation within the ranks of the mechanicum. There is almost a fear, driven by a religious fanaticism that the old should be maintained and new should be feared. Yet another sign that our beloved imperium is in a backslidden decay. Our predecessors can boast of much more ingenuity, evidenced by the progressive technological advancement between armour marks of an earlier age. Yes, MKVIII armour is the latest example of our stagnation, but we will loose the shackles that bind us to the technology of the past……” Lugft Huron File type: Extract, Audio capture. Evidence presented by Arch Magos Biarinis Gage, supporting evidence of the accused’s engagement in Technological Heresy. Spoiler Spoiler Another retaliator built, MKVIII is perhaps the easiest armour mark to convert from Primaris. Knee pad adjustments, greaves adapted, chest plate detailing taken from plastic MkVIII torso, new helmet/pack, left arm from the reiver kit. I think something a little more challenging for the next post is in order….. ;) Cadmus Edited June 20, 2023 by Cadmus Tyro Kennyjapan, BadgersinHills, ZeroWolf and 5 others 4 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379047-a-tyrants-due-legion-auxilia/#findComment-5963190 Share on other sites

Cadmus Tyro
Brother Derios Iron Hunter squad Rarmax III Demi Legion “Huron’s will” Spoiler Spoiler Welcome back everyone, introducing the start of my second squad of astral claws, the iron hunters. The Astral claws chapter trait incentivises the use of bikes and the iron hunters are a unique option available to the Tyrants legion. I imagine they’re just as effective at charging down enemy astartes as they are running down deserters from the militia! MKV converted using FW resin parts, GS work and detailing taken from a MkV torso to make the chest plate. Gorget filed down, old MkVII back pack. Greaves filed down and studs added using glass beads with wrapped wire detailing. Left hand and arm taken from the reiver kit to allow a second arm holding the handlebars. Personally, I think the Primaris outrider kit is pretty terrible. The new bike aesthetics are fantastic, but the actual kit is poorly designed and ironically difficult to build well. Here’s to hoping for a multipart kit at some point in the future! Hope you like him, now for the other four! Tyrannicide
Love what you've done so far. The leg conversion work with the addition of the cabling is genius, and it really helps hide the original ankle ball design. Will we be seeing Huron at some point? Thanks Firedrake, the wire is wrapped flexible wire from Zinge. Much easier to use as it retains its shape and washes tend to sit better in the gaps between the wire coils. Worth spending a bit on materials like that IMHO. On 6/28/2023 at 8:47 PM, Tyrannicide said: Love what you've done so far.
