The original thought trains on 10th release was to include as many babysitters as possible as people saw the characters as force multipliers. The truth is more in the middle; some lists/detachments/armies are more reliant than others. I don't think there's a easy answer either way. I run 5 in my VanVet squad (with the other 5 having Storm Shields) and I have found them pretty useful. I ran into AdMech last week with lots of tough Robots and walkersl. While they are not my primary source of anti-tank, having extra units that can threaten armour at a pinch is definitely handy, especially given that tanks are much more viable in 10th than they were in 8th/9th. It is getting to the point where I cannot decide if the extra cost is still justified. Van Vets get Lethal Hits on the charge while JAIs get MWs on a 4+ so both can potentially "punch up" to threaten tough targets. Buffed = Red Rampage + Oath Basic = Charging + Oath Marine(M), Terminator(T) and Rhino (R) equivalent target. VAN VETS Basic: MEQ - 8w TEQ - 5w REQ - 5w VAN VETS Buffed: MEQ - 10w TEQ - 6w REQ - 7w JAI Basic (2.5 for the MW charge with powerfist) MEQ - 6+4+2.5 TEQ - 2 + 4+ 2.5 REQ - 3 + 4 + 2.5 JAI Buffed: MEQ - 8+4+2.5 TEQ - 5 + 4+ 2.5 REQ - 5 + 4 + 2.5 TL;DNR - RAI win out every time on the charge. Vanvets will benefit more over time and in big squads with a priest and shield for resilience and extra AP. But, the 5mans in SoS are gold. Expand I am thinking of adding 1 or 2 bare bones JAI squads alongside my heavy lifters. If they draw any heat, my valuable units live that much longer. The Captain giving small squads of AIS a boost really seems quite popular atm. *** *** *** This SoS list went went 5-0 and came top of out 34 players: Max-Schwarzer-1st-Place-The-Great-Game-Gongaii-GT-Spring-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com) 2x Captain Chaplain Lemartes Sanguinor 2x5 AIS & Impulsor 1x5 JAI 1x10 DC & Rhino DCD 1x10 Jump DC 1x5 Eradicator 1x5 Scouts 1x5 Infiltrators This one however, is a tad less obvious. Perhaps the Eradicators and DCD are placed into Strategic Reserves? Infiltrators on the home objective whilst the Scouts and JAI do the scoring (but something else has to chip in too it seems?)
