6 characters, interesting. I can remember ppl saying more bodies are always better than sinking points in chars...

I don't think anyone has ever said that. The original thought trains on 10th release was to include as many babysitters as possible as people saw the characters as force multipliers.

The truth is more in the middle; some lists/detachments/armies are more reliant than others. I don't think there's a easy answer either way.

I'm amazed anyone has 25 inferno pistols. I understand "why not?" Points wise, but I'd love to hear how often they were used as shooting.

I suspect someone was either proxying or has 3D printed a bunch. I run 5 in my VanVet squad (with the other 5 having Storm Shields) and I have found them pretty useful. I ran into AdMech last week with lots of tough Robots and walkersl. While they are not my primary source of anti-tank, having extra units that can threaten armour at a pinch is definitely handy, especially given that tanks are much more viable in 10th than they were in 8th/9th.

This one came third going 4-1 in a 35 player event:

Lyle-Dixon-3rd-Place-Wild-Hunt-GT-Spring-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

SoS Detachment:

  • 2x Captain
  • Chaplain
  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • 2x AIS
  • 2x Flamerbaal
  • 1x10 DC in Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • Infiltrators
  • Redeemer
  • Scouts

Similar style to the above, more of a counter attacking playstyle imo

This one was also third placed out of 30 this time, going 4-1

Juuso-Sipilainen-3rd-Place-Glory-GT-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

SoS Detachment:

  • 2x Captain
  • Chaplain
  • Lemartes
  • Combi-weapon Lieutenant
  • Sanguinor
  • 2x AIS
  • 2x Impulsor
  • 1x10 DC in Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 2x5 Jump DC
  • Flamerbaal
  • 3x5 Scouts

Slight variation again, but still a counter attack and evasive style that's akin to Razorspam in places.

This one came first going 5-0 in a 31 player field:

Frank-Viruet-1st-Place-Tarheel-Charity-GT-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

SoS Detachment:

  • 2x Captain
  • Chaplain
  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • 2x5 AIS
  • 2x Impulsor
  • 1x10 DC in Rhino
  • 2x5 Jump DC
  • 2x5 JAI
  • 2x Flamerbaal
  • 2x5 Scouts
  • Callidus

Again, similar theme and variation, using JAI as one would have used RAS back in the day.

As you can see, there's a theme emerging for us and for me this is encouraging as it's how I have played for years...

  • 3 weeks later...

A BA Ironstorm list went 4-1 and finishing 2/44 recently:

Manuel-Wieczorek-2nd-Place-ELBCOAST-CUP-X-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • 3x5 JAI
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 3 Gladiator Reapers
  • 2 Destructors
  • Repulsor Executioner
  • 1x5 Scouts
  • 1x5 VAS

Quite interesting to see this type for us - and no Baals, but I guess the CPs are needed for the Ironstorm Stratagems. Perhaps the MSU start in reserves too.

A SoS list went 5-0 and finished top of 28 players:

Francois-Lalonde-1st-Place-Red-Dragon-April-GT-2024-–-Blood-Angels-Allies.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • 2 Captain
  • 2 Jump Priests
  • Lemartes
  • 1x10 JAI
  • 2x5 DC & Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 2x5 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Infiltrators
  • 2x5 Scouts
  • 1x10 VAS
  • Callidus

Bit of variation from previous lists here with the Priests going with the large jump blocks. Infiltrators guarding the home objective and the rest doing actions/distracting.

*** *** ***

This SoS list went 5-0 and came top of 37 players:

Aidan-Brocklehurst-1st-Place-War-At-The-Westward-IV-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor

  • 2 Jump Priests
  • 1x5 AIS
  • 1x10 JAI
  • 1x5 JAI
  • 1x10 DC & Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Infiltrators
  • 1x5 Scouts
  • 1x10 VAS

Again, it's a straightforward ABC style SoS list, but the DC in Rhino concept is gaining popularity, certainly.

This SoS also went 5-0, winning in a field of 57 players:

Chris-Green-1st-Place-St.-Louis-Annual-Last-Minute-Tournament-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • 2x5 AIS
  • 1x10 DC & Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 2x5 Jump DC
  • Lancer
  • 2x5 Infiltrators
  • Redeemer

Not entirely sure what's in the Redeemer for this one, but it's again similar to the above in play (albeit with the Overwatch trick)

My gut says its empty, but my heart is hoping it's got 5 JP DC and Lemartes in it, but that seems like a bit of a waste of Lemartes instead of sticking him with the 10 man.

MIght just be the 5 man JP DC squad for some charging chicanery.

My real guess is that it's the 2x5 Assault Intercessors + Captain.  Chaplain with the Rhino DC, everything else is blasting off.

Edited by DemonGSides

Last ones pre-MFM.

This SoS list went 6-0 coming first out of 198 players:

Zaak-Kerstetter-1st-Place-Rocky-Mountain-Open-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • 2x Captain

  • 2x5 AIS
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 1x10 DC & Rhino
  • 3x5 Scouts
  • Lancer
  • Redeemer

Pretty sure a similar version of this has won something before and it's all fairly obvious what's doing what at this point.

A SoS list went 4-0-1 yet still finishing top out of 40 players:

Joshua-McGowan-1st-Place-CQ-Exterminatus-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Captain
  • 2x Priest
  • Jump Captain
  • Jump Priest
  • Sanguinor
  • 3x5 AIS
  • 1x5 Intercessors
  • 1x10 JAI
  • 2x5 JAI
  • Impulsor
  • 2x3 Bladeguard
  • Redeemer
  • 3x5 Scouts

This one it a little bit different. Jump Captain and Priest with the large JAI. Foot Priests and Captain(?) with the AIS. Lots of movement, actions, etc.

This one came 3rd out of 39 players, going 4-1:

Owen-Bissell-3rd-Place-OP-March-Madness-GT-2024-–-Blood-Angels-Allies.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Lemartes
  • Chaplain
  • 2x5 AIS
  • 1x10 DC
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 1x3 Eradicators
  • 1x3 Inceptors
  • 1x5 Infiltrators
  • 1x5 Scouts
  • Flamerbaal
  • Redeemer
  • Lancer
  • Callidus

A few staples, but light on the HQ choices as as it opts for some specialist ones instead. Similar theme, but with the foot DC taking the centre-ramming Redeemer instead.

Interesting to see the Jump Assault Intercessors doing so well. I favour Van Vets myself as they they have +1S and can take either storm shields or Inferno Pistols. Mind you, since the latest MFM, they are now 5ppm more than JAIs. It is getting to the point where I cannot decide if the extra cost is still justified.

Van Vets get Lethal Hits on the charge while JAIs get MWs on a 4+ so both can potentially "punch up" to threaten tough targets.

JAI are just absolutely dirt cheap and within the SoS detatchment they also hit like trucks compared to the other SM varieties, so they fill the niche without being as much of an investment.

Give us that tasty "JAI are battleline" detatchment, GW.  GIVE IT.

Ran some numbers for you, and you may  be surprised (I know I was).

Numbers assume 5man squads.

Buffed = Red Rampage + Oath

Basic = Charging + Oath

Marine(M), Terminator(T) and Rhino (R) equivalent target.

VAN VETS Basic:

MEQ - 8w

TEQ - 5w

REQ - 5w

VAN VETS Buffed:

MEQ - 10w

TEQ - 6w

REQ - 7w

JAI Basic (2.5 for the MW charge with powerfist)

MEQ - 6+4+2.5
TEQ - 2 + 4+ 2.5

REQ - 3 + 4 + 2.5

JAI Buffed:

MEQ - 8+4+2.5
TEQ - 5 + 4+ 2.5

REQ - 5 + 4 + 2.5

TL;DNR - RAI win out every time on the charge.

Vanvets will benefit more over time and in big squads with a priest and shield for resilience and extra AP.

But, the 5mans in SoS are gold.

Which is why I run a large squad of VVets with all the trimmings, and keep my JAI unit cheap!

I am thinking of adding 1 or 2 bare bones JAI squads alongside my heavy lifters. If they draw any heat, my valuable units live that much longer. If they get ignored, they can really punch above their weight in an SOS Detachment.

Here we have a SoS list going 4-1 and finishing second out of 43 players:

Christopher-Irvine-2nd-Place-Clan-Wars-Scottish-Open-5-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Captain
  • Jump Priest
  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • Chaplain
  • 1x5 AIS & Impulsor
  • 2x5 JAI
  • Baal
  • 1x10 DC & Rhino
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • Lancer
  • 1x5 Scouts
  • 1x10 VAS

Again, pretty obvious what goes where and what it does at this point, with the JAI being used for scoring troops like RAS used to be. The Captain giving small squads of AIS a boost really seems quite popular atm.

This SoS list went went 5-0 and came top of out 34 players:

Max-Schwarzer-1st-Place-The-Great-Game-Gongaii-GT-Spring-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • 2x Captain
  • Chaplain
  • Lemartes
  • Sanguinor
  • 2x5 AIS & Impulsor
  • 1x5 JAI
  • 1x10 DC & Rhino
  • DCD
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Eradicator
  • 1x5 Scouts
  • 1x5 Infiltrators

This one however, is a tad less obvious. Perhaps the Eradicators and DCD are placed into Strategic Reserves? Infiltrators on the home objective whilst the Scouts and JAI do the scoring (but something else has to chip in too it seems?)

  • 3 weeks later...

This SoS list came 2/30 players:

Bo-Moerck-Penstoft-3rd-Place-Hydra-GT-II-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • 3x Jump Priest
  • Sanguinor
  • Lemartes

  • 1x10 VAS
  • 1x3 Inceptors
  • Flamerbaal
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Infiltrators
  • 2x5 Scouts

This one is more a jump ABC list with some (now) obvious tricks.

*** *** ***

This SoS list came 3/62 players:

Mike-Fuendling-3rd-Place-Fal-Con-2024-–-Blood-Angels.pdf (bloodofkittens.com)

  • Captain
  • 2x Jump Captain
  • Judiciar
  • Lemartes
  • 2x10 JAI
  • 1x5 JAI
  • 1x6 Bladeguard
  • Company Heroes
  • 1x10 Jump DC
  • 2x5 Infiltrators
  • Redeemer
  • 2x5 Scouts

Another variant of the theme we've been seeing so far, but with a few tweaks. Jump Captains with the large blocks of JAI for the freebie stratagems; them and the DC in reserve possibly for Rapid Ingress; Captain and Company Heroes, plus Judiciar and Bladeguard in the Redeemer sent down the middle; Infiltrators and Scouts for scoring.

This SoS list went 3/26 players:

  • 2x5 DC (and Rhino)
  • 1x5 Jump DC
  • 2x10 Jump DC
  • 1x5 Sang Guard
  • 2x5 Scouts
  • 1x5 Voidsmen

Same idea, very different execution here - along with the odd surprise choice (Voidsmen for home objectives? Sang Guard). Very interesting.
