Kill Team season rumours

There is a new picture floating around on 4chan. As usual, zero proofs or sources but looks quite believable I guess. Starter reveal during preview will give it more credibility if there are Tempest Guardians in the box.

My head knows that Elsyians is almost certainly wrong. By heart though…

Three of the four boxes being Marines? I'm skeptical if I'm honest.

I'm curious which teams will have upgrade sprues. If it's the same pattern, box 2-4 should all have sprues. I could see the Spawn of Typhon being a Acolyte Hybrid team with a sprue, but the same could be said for Veritas Kill Team. The Pit Gladiators could be a Berserker or Jakhal sprue, though I'm not sure what they could really add. Caedere weapons? Box 4 is a hard read though, as I can't think of a kit in either faction that could get by with just a sprue vs a new kit

One of these factions can have a codex release beforehand with new stuff. Then, technically, it will be an old unit with upgrade.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to what a Tempest Guardian is?

Anyway, smells fishy. All four boxes with some flavour of Marines? And 2 of them being extra-elite variants of Marine against absolute chaff factions?

Everyone loves Marines, so it's definitely possible...

Will be interesting if the naming for box 1 fits come Saturday. I'm so down for a new Kill Team.

Box 1:

>Tempest Guardians.

Meaning Storm Guardians a.k.a the Aeldari line Infantry?

Every "first box" of a season has been 2 fully new sprues, and it seems odd that they'd break that trend this early.

>Veteran Scouts.

IIRC the main users of "scouts that aren't Neophytes" are the Raptors chapter and all the Space Wolves + their Successors.

This might be true, but only 'cause there was a "Chapter transfer sheet" floating about with Raptor decals on it.

Box 2:

>Spawn of Typhon.

Sounds more like a Deathguard name to me tbh.

Also what exactly could the even do for GCS that Wyrmblade and the Compendium teams don't already do?

>Veritas Kill Team.

We are overdue an actual Killteam in KillTeam, so this one is more likely on that alone. Hopefully of the two this wouldn't be the Upgrade Sprue, though that would make Spawn of Typhon seem even less likely.

Box 3:

>Pit Gladiators.

The WE "Pit Gladiators" are just regular Berserkers with even less Armour than usual and sometimes a different type of chain weapon, so upgrade sprue maybe?

Still would fall into the issue of "Melee Exclusive Team" again tho.

>Elysian Mobile Infantry.

Surely they mean Elysian Drop Troopers, right? I doubt we'd get a Starship Troopers crossover in Killteam.

Since IIRC the Elysian loadout is just a Grav-Chute, a different Helmet and a Lascarbine rather than a Lasgun, this could also be the upgrade sprue team in the box, based on the normal Infantry Squad.

Box 4:

>The Shadowspawned.

The use of Shadow here rather than any other God-specific phrase (Blood, Rot, Flame, Musk, etc.) implies these would be ether Undivided Daemons or Belakor's lads (also "Undivided" but only 'cause their boss is).

Alternatively it's just Daemon Monster Mash, in which case the Compendium is right there with it.

>Strike Squad Escalibur.

Genuinely do not know enough about Grey Knights to make a guess at how they'd be different from usual, but I feel people would complain if we got "New Scale" Grey Knights Troops locked behind a Dual KT Box for several months.

It can be those green Striking Scorpions looking Aeldari from other rumours. My hope always was that they're are actually new exodites and not craftworld aspects.

>Veteran Scouts
I bet they will be from Raven Guard as GW has shown upgrade in their colours.

Three of the four boxes in the previous season were specialist imperial troops, with Kasrkins, Navy Breachers and Arbites. So sometimes when they got a thing they want to do, they go all in.

And yet only 2 of the previous 18 teams were Astartes of any kind.

Kill Team is such a good vehicle for the design team to deliver units that don't really fit into the main game of 40k in a neat way (Navy Breachers, Arbites, Beastmen and Inqusitorial Agents all fit this category, and arguably Corsairs and Traitor Guard do too) that spending a team slot on even an upgrade sprue for Marines feels like a wasted opportunity to me. They're already the best-served factions in the game. Lets see some of the old Guard regiments brought back, the Tau auxilliary races expanded, unaligned Daemons, friggin Exodites. Pretty much anything would be more exciting than Space Marines.

I also would expect a tyranid kill team if the rumored jungle setting is correct.

It was already said on warcom what the setting ( or at least the initial setting ) is... its a ocean with some industrial ruins ( or in general.. buildings coming out of said ocean.) the Jungle rumor came to be because the color of the image was heavily green, and people rarely read the text accompanying pictures ;)

Even though I do agree with your points and am highly skeptical of this, Im going to play devils advocate on some

Box 1

Tempest guardians could be really bad naming of something new... I doubt it, but its not that unheard of for GW.

I think at this point its 99% certain that scouts will be kill team though ( the ravenguard studio paintjob with all the operatives (and yes there are more)) has a nice killteam like base as well.

Box 2
Spawn of Typhon is just based on the Hivefleet Typhon I guess ( wether made up or real.) .. its odd though as I dont think GSC havent been directly linked to hivefleets before... but it could be a first.

I think for Deathwatch an upgrade sprue might be favorable, as it is more likely to be something that can give multiple different deathwatch kill teams their own visual and gameplay identity in 40k proper... but thats just opinion.

Box 3

Its not unheard of that GW takes a FW concept and changes the naming and identity, Voidscarred are a very different thing that FWs corsairs where, this is for me actually the most believable one in the entire list.

Box 4

Daemon mash must still be a new team though. They could throw all 4 lesser daemon 10kit ones in a box and then let you pick and choose.. but I dont think it will happen in a main box. If true, box 4 is most likely Grey knights as an upgrade sprue ( remember they are roughly as old as previously used Kabalites and Deathmarks.. they just didnt age as well.)

But as said, I dont really believe the rumor and we will find out very soon :)

Unless they are prepared to start upscaling the entire GK line, I would assume that this would fit the upgrade sprue slot.

Though I would not be surprised if it comes with some crazy new heavy weapon that is both limited to this box for months and solves a lot of the AT issues GK have.

There have been some GSC with direct links to specific Hive Fleets. The Behemoid Undercult partly worship Old One Eye. The Sons of Jormungandr await for their patron hive fleet to reclaim their Patriarchy.

Could be Biel Tan guardians in green with swords mistaken for Scorpions perhaps.

Just like could be Raptor scouts and catchan dudes mixed up in rumours. Rumours often come through people making guesses about what they saw.
