He resurfaced during the War of the Beast but was believed to be perma-killed destroying the Orks' Waargh reactor. However he is a Perpetual so could pop up at any time and comment "Ouch, that took a bit longer to recover from than usual" I have not read War of the Beast (heard too many mixed reiews to commit to it), but surely there's nothing an Ork nuclear reactor could do to Vulkan that would be worse than the 100s or even 1000s of deaths he suffered at the hands of Magnus in the Webway. He's definitely alive somewhere.... Hard to say. We know that certain OP psychic attacks can permanently kill even Perpetuals. Fulgarite is one example and Athame blades are another. Magnus' psychic attacks were sufficient to kill the Perpetual Alivia Surreka (technically she sacrificed her immortality to revive Malcador's). Vulkan was permanently killed by Fulgarite on Macragge and only revived by the sacrifice of Captain Numeon. Suffice it to say that even Vulkan can be killed. The Waargh reactor was a sort of Psychic reactor channeling huge amounts of Waargh energy. During WOTB, Vulkan was seen to regenerate on other occasions after seemingly fatal encounters. But he was never seen again after that. This implies to me that Vulkan is at least out of action for the moment but his return is no more improbable than Guilliman's. I just don't think that he is still on guard duty in the Throneroom. He emerged for the Battle of the Beast so why not the Reign of Blood or the 2nd Siege of Terra? At the very least I think that he would have wanted to give Guilliman a hug after he returned. At the very least I think that he would have wanted to give Guilliman a hug after he returned. It's sad that the giant in Trazyn's collection turned out to be a Custodian. I think that would have been a very fun avenue to go down and I'd have like to have seen how that happened. Vulkan is just out the game for now. The War of the Beast was like 1500 years Post-Heresy and the early Inquisition knew Vulkan was just hanging about looking after a farm planet and they left him to it. He didn't want to get involved and only did when things had clearly hit the fan but he did it with all the enthusiasm of Chevy Chase in Season 4 of Community. Made a big to do about how he wouldn't be hanging about after and wouldn't be back until it really kicks off for real. And yes Vulkan did get exploded by a giant psychic nuke Ork that time but I think everyone is in agreement that he was probably alright after. I reckon Vulkan has been sitting on another farm planet for the past 8500 hanging about playing Farmville. He was into that during the War of the Beast and it seemed pretty chill. Who's gonna stop him? No doubts the Inquisition know about it but they'd just leave him to it. There's not really any other way to deal with Vulkan's Farmville planet because having a stray Primarch is a lot of potential admin. They can't realistically abduct him and put him in the jail because they're no putting a Primarch anywhere he doesn't want to go. Perpetual so can't kill him. If people find him he'll likely disappear and you have to find him again. A Primarch kicking about and not wanting to get involved isn't a good look either. There's probably a whole Ordo Vulkan in the Inquisition helping keep Farmville planet secret. Cheeky shadow wars when some wise guy decides to let folk know Vulkan Lives. Informants asking if this Black Crusade is the one and him saying nah he's no getting involved. Maybe a couple pals over the Millennia that visit for sage wisdom. If he got abducted by Trazyn at some point that'd be grand but my money is on him doing feth all for 8500 years. The Praetorian of Inwit
Primarchs make money. They'll bring more back. Vulkan I would love to see come back alongside Dorn. I liked it when Vulkan gave Rogal a hug. They makes him a cool dude in my book. It would be cool to see Rogal Dorn and Vulkan come back together - and perhaps changed from how they were in their 30k days. Rogal the wrathful religious Crusader. Vulkan it would be interesting to see if he lost some of his compassion. Came back and was like; "well this has all gone to s**t, bring me the phosphex...the heavy phosphex". I wonder if GW wants to release any Primarchs in 2027, that is 40k's 40th anniversary after all. I can see how GW would think celebrate/commerate means more Space Marines after all.
